Todmorden Golf Club Player Reports
Richard Lupton (England) 12/03/07
A 10 hole course (7 and 16 have different greens and tees) set on moorland above the town, Todmorden Golf Club provides some of the most breathtaking views for miles around.
The course itself is tight whilst not overly long, providing a good test of golf for players of all handicaps. The greens are superb, something the ground staff pride themselves on, and the course generally is kept in good conditions. Fairways are not the widest and greens are relatively small, so target golf is a must to score well.
The signature hole 7th, with a long drop from tee to green, can be played with anything from sand iron to driver, depending on the severity of the wind. It provides a stunning view to the town centre and routes out of town in the valley below.
The par 4 fourth also provides a tough challenge, with a sometimes intimidating tee shot over the rocks and a longish second into the green. With the wind against, even the biggest of hitters face a challenge to reach in two.
No par 5s on Todmorden makes scoring low more difficult. Catering is always good and the bar area pleasant, though space restrictions means that changing room facilities are fairly cramped and minimal.
Well worth a trip for the money.

A round at Todmorden is a unique experience in combining a challenging 9 holes with a superb walk with fantastic views. In particular the tee shot at the first and seventh holes rival anything offered by Turnbury if you can imagine that the sea has been replaced with heather. Very friendly Great Place to be.
