Towneley Golf Club Player Reports
Gareth Hurley (England) 12/10/05
Not a terribly difficult test of golf with wide fairways and relatively large greens. However, it is great fun to play and visitors are always made welcome.
Two holes stand out from the rest - the par 4 9th with a drive (right in front of the clubhouse balcony) down a fairly steep hill and then an iron from a downhill lie to a green flanked by bunkers and a steep drop off area to the left. The second stand out hole is the par 4 15th with a great risk/reward decision to take from the tee.
I would recommend Towneley but note that it is very busy in the summer and at weekends and there is no way to book a tee time without purchasing a booking reference number for the year (though this is pretty cheap).

The course is enjoyable to play though the 9 hole course is a little more challenging then the 18. Greens are in fairly poor condition and need extensive work during the next few months. I am looking at becoming a member providing the work gets carried out.

this is were i started playing july 2002. friendly staff coupled with a tough and challenging course for a beginner have made it very enjoyable so far. i think it would give handicappers a good test too.
watch out for the changing face of the course after a downpour though.

Very good value and well located just off the M65. The course is ideal for the mid to high handicaps, lower handicapped golfers may find the course a bit easy but still nonetheless fun to play.
