Marriott Tudor Park Hotel and Country Club Player Reports

I really don't know what the other reviewers want when they play a resort course like this. We've just come back from spending the night at Tudor Park on there golf escape deal that they do for £90.

This includes 2 rnds of golf, B & B and 3 course dinner....the course, is was it is, a shortish track with well thought out holes (it's not THE BELFRY OR ST ANDREWS HENCE THE PRICE OF A WEEKEND RND I BELIVE IS ABOUT £30-£40) which in todays golfing market is about right for a weekend rnd. we've played the course in the summer and winter and i always like to see green maintenance in the winter as this makes playing the course in the summer all the more enjoyable.

The course at the moment is playing pretty well for this time of year but with like so many sand based greens in the winter, there is alot of preping going on. This, as far as i'm concerned is what is to be expected for this time of year.

Yes you may find better courses around the kent area but can they put you up for the night and feed you.....then send you out to enjoy the beauty of the kent country side for under £100....I DON'T THINK SO....my group and i will be returning later this year to play the course in its full glory and i for one can't wait...

When you first arrive, you come through the hotel entrance and are directed by the well meaning reception staff through the hotel, past the indoor swimming pool, the gym reception and finally into the Pro shop. It doesn't feel like you're at a golf club.....well actually, that's the point. This isn't a 'club' as such. It's a very nice Marriott Hotel with leisure facilities...one of those facilities being an 18 hole golf course.

The course itself is in decent enough nick at the moment. The greens are reasonably quick and the rough has grown a lot. It isn't a long course though, scoring would be pretty easy if you keep the ball straight, rather than try to bring the course to it's knees with brute force.

This is a place for corporate golf and new starters to the game. You can't have a 7000 yard monster with pot bunkers and knee length rough if all you do is put your target market off playing the game, so it's understandable why the course has been designed the way it has.

We had a drink and sandwich in the upstairs bar afterwards, which was very expensive at nearly £10! I don't have a problem as such with these modern venues, they have more relaxed dresscodes and none of the stuffiness of an old fashioned club. Unfortunately, the costs of the golf and for food and drink afterwards simply isn't competitive. There are plenty of good courses at private clubs in this part of the south-east where you can get on for less, either through entering one of their Opens, playing at quiet times, playing in the off-season or going round with a member if you know one. You don't even need to resort to 2-4-1 vouchers, you can still get a better deal.

I won't come on here criticising this club - it has some nice features, good facilities and the course is OK. I do feel however that you can get a better course and a better deal for the same money at many other courses, and also feel that you are actually IN a golf club!

Our society played this course three times in June/July 2006. Overall we thought the course was good and was a fair challenge and we would certainly recommend playing there. The only gripe we had was that we got behind a corporate golf day which being a Marriott course I suppose you have to expect but the round took 5 hrs which tarnished our enjoyment.

Do not fully understand the critism, we had a society weekend there and fully enjoyed it. Yes some fairways are close but also narrow, straight hitting is a must. Longer rough very punishing. Overall the course was in great condition and provides a fair challenge for all.

I played this course on 9/6/05 and really enjoyed myself.

I thought the course design and layout were good and the fairways and greens were in great condition. The first cut of rough is playable but the long stuff was unplayable (quiet right to) - not that anyone in my group found their ball once it was in there. Stay out of the rough!

The course isn't long but I found that it meant good play was rewarded with a chance of making GiR. Some of the fairways are close together and you do need to take shouts of 'fore!' seriously.

we have a weekend away with our golf society once a year,in last 3 years we have been here twice, the course is in good nick i agree there is some very weak holes on the course with the 7th which is a 3 quarter wedge at best letting it down.overal course isnt long but there is holes that can catch you out.i wouldnt recomend paying full green fee but for 2fore1 and other offers not that bad for the condition and location.we are returning this year and £75 for 36 holes overnight sunday stay, dinner and breakfast u cant go wrong

Have to agree with the previous. I played there last October in a regional final of the Times Corporate Challenge. Normally these are hosted on decent courses so I turned up with high expectations. Wrong! Being Marriot the off course facilities are great but it all goes horribly wrong when you walk out on the 1st tee. Short, uninspiring, yes tees and greens close together so take a helmet with you if you have to play there. Sorry, but just not up to the normal Marriot standard - suggest they sell it Travel Inn.

Played on the Sunday afternoon of the British Open using 2fore1 voucher.

First comment would be that the course is not worth the full price green fee of £40. We had high expectations of a real quality course with challenging holes This soon disappeared when faced with a chip and run par 3 for example. Actually most of the holes seemed to have chip and run approaches. Very few had bunkers in front of the greens. Consequently none of the holes really stood out..

The course was a bit jumbled and tees and greens a bit too close to each other. Lots of flying balls and belated shouts of FORE!

The course seemed aimed at the casual hotel guest or corporate client who must get a better green fee deal than the average pay and play golfer.

Not a course I’d rush back to play.
