Fantastic. I’ve previously played Turton twice, both in the rain, so I took the opportunity of playing it again yesterday on a gorgeous spring morning. The course is tucked away above the well-established town of Bromley Cross and the views are just sensational. On most of the holes, you have wonderful views of Winter Hill, Beacon Hill and the East Lancashire moors with Manchester and the Pennines in clear view. Bolton rarely looks so good. Since my last visit, they’ve made noticeable improvements (paths, drainage, bunkers and landscaping) without impairing the essential character of the holes, which are all different, the 2 new bunkers on the 1st hole make this a challenging uphill start over the valley for all but the most accurate of drivers. The tee boxes and fairways were in lovely condition, the springy moorland turf giving plenty of opportunity for good ball striking. The rough wasn’t too severe but the shape and sloping fairways on the majority of the holes provided enough challenge even if you found yourself in position A off the tee. I play off 16 and had a good day yesterday but only just made handicap courtesy of a fortunate birdie on the uphill 11th. The tricky greens were fast and, although they got the better of me on the day (five 3-putts), they were consistent and demanded respect. I’ll be ready for them next time. My favourite hole, the sweeping picturesque 12th, was fabulous again and the breeze kept you on your toes throughout the round as the holes play in all directions and you’re pretty exposed up there. The course rewards good shotmaking but loses a little of its charm at the finish so, if they can somehow build some more character into the straight 16th & 17th holes, this would make an outstanding course exceptional. Most folk will come off this lovely course with a smile, regardless of their score, and it’s very good value at £20 on a discount ticket.

Played the course today under the Green Free voucher scheme for a reasonable winter fee of £10.00.
Money was accepted without any mention of any changes to the course.
Only on plotting the way around were several winter greens discovered nestling away.
I must agree with the previous golfers comments on the state of the winter greens (Too small, bumpy especially the 15th) and putting becomes a lottery. 10 inch cups seem to have become non-existent.
All in all this is quite a good course but only if played between May and September.
Just about worth the green fee charged but some up front information would not go amiss.

Played Turton last weekend in typically Lancastrian November weather - wet underfoot and cold breezy drizzle that just stays wet all day! Incredulous members advised us that no-one else had ventured out but after some excellent bacon barms and coffee, we decided to give it a go. The £22 we paid would normally have been a bargain but unfortunately the tee boxes were mostly mats, we were obliged to pick off the fairways and place into the semi-rough and the winter greens were very small, making approaches and putting a lottery. It was such a shame because the fairways and full greens looked immaculate and the course will be a treat next Spring, when I look forward to returning. It's a delightful course with fantastic views and an excellent variety of holes. The signature hole (12th) normally needs a good drive for position followed by a mid-iron second down into a lovely sweeping valley with a stream down the right all the way - picture perfect. We could only admire the view as the hole had been cut down to a pitch and putt which was particularly disappointing. Unsurprisingly the bar staff and pro shop were shut when we got back (in need of a hot shower and a mug of tea), but in spite of that, I'll be back next year to enjoy one of the best looking courses in Lancashire.

Slow awful greens (Members told me they are flat for a couple of months in their prime each year, but never fast) - Poorly defined fairways and bunkers which range from augusta sand up to your knees to clay-pits.
Nice views, but I expect more for my hard earned money.

our society had a 27 hole game on sunday last, weather a little bit damp but the course played as a great course should, ( as it should in sunny weather ).
as others say, it is hilly, but fantastic views make it all worth while.
congratulations to the staff, greenkeepers and members for making our visit welcome. and we will visit again.

A very tricky but hugely enjoyable course that rewards the golfer for good shots - even a big lumbering 18 hanicapper like myself! Fantastic views and well laid out holes - watch out for the 17th green, very easy to putt off as I found!!
A very hilly course so take a trolley or hire a buggy if you're a bit "rotund" like me.
