Wallasey Golf Club Player Reports

I have played golf on the Wirral for over 25 yrs and this is the best course in the area. When we went in August 2007 the green were very true and even paced and all the holes are a great challenge. Even the middle of the round which used to be a bit bland, now has a tricky par 3 and a new long par 5 which requires three very good shots. It is difficult choice which of the 2 9s are better as both the beginning and end of the round have a dramatic and very tough stretch of holes. Accuracy and length off the tee are a real advantage.

I played Wallasey a couple of years ago and recall it to be an excellent test of golf played over an old, windswept links. The greens were fantastic, as was the course in general.
Its not difficult to see why it was used as the final qualifier for the 2006 Open; the holes require strategy and concentration from tee to green with a variety of blind shots, a great challenge for all levels of golfer.
The clubhouse afterwards provided a very welcoming pint in rather old fashioned but exceptionally informal surroundings.
Wallasey is a must for any links fan and for those who wish to play the game like it was meant to be played.

Played this excellent links course in late April and I found it to be in first class condition. Vitually every hole has its own characteristics, the greens are difficult to read and a number of them require approach shots to a high elevation. The par 3 16th (193 yds) requires an precise tee shot otherwise a double bogey or worse beckons. The views from the high tees, particularly over Liverpool Bay, are spectacular and when the wind blows, which it usually does, it is a real test. This course is well worth a visit and worthy of being an Open qualifier.

I played this course in late May 2005. The course required every club in your bag. Many
picturesque holes with the par 5, 5th along the
ocean. This course also featured well bunkered
holes especially the par 3 holes. Members were
very friendly to us.

Wallasey Golf Club was only the second golf course I ever played when I first visited England on a golfing holiday, in 1997. I returned in August 1998, and again in August 1999, and have played the couse now seven times. It ranks as my all time favorite golf course, any where I have played. The vistas are great, it's challenging, especially in the wind, and the members I've met while playing and having a pint, on the veranda, overlooking 18 green, are real gentleman. I'm looking forward to returning in August 2004.
