Walmersley Golf Club Player Reports

Arrived to participate in the Stables Leisure Club golf society. First impressions were goo, beautiful views from which ever point you stand. No driving range to warm up, although there was a practice range. However, this was dissapointing and was up hill.
The course itself was breathtaking, immaculate greens, fairways and tee off areas. challenging holes. Some fairways are steep banked, so even the most skillful player struggles to keep the ball on the fairway. Club house was very poor i must say, coffee making facilities were bare and food required a long wait, meaning we missed our original tee off time. Overall a good days golf, 2 warnings though; if its sunny wear plenty of sunscreen and watch out fo horseflies. Will definitely be going back

A beautiful course with superb views across the west pennine moors. The fairways and greens are always in immaculate condition and it is good test of golf; not too long but quite tight in places. The members are very friendly and the whole club has a great feel to it.

A thinkers course. A straight drive is the order of the day, otherwise you will find yourself playing from the long wispy stuff! Greens and fairways were in great nick, and the sun was shining. Although a short course, don't expect a low score, especially if the wind is blowing. The first hole from an elevated tee, I was advised by a member, can play anything from a 9 iron to a 3 wood depending on the strength and directionof the wind. Great views. Friendly members and staff. Bar meals a little limited. Overall a great day out. Definitely one to play again.

Played during a dry weekend in January and found the greens were very wet but still consistent, the previous pitch marks (mostly repaired) were everywhere. Great views but a few funny smells! Quite a short course with quite a few 300/320 yard par 4's, so a good drive and wedge are the order of the day, but the many undulations and few sloping faiways made the approaches a bit trickier. 6 par 3's on the course (par 69), 4 of which were either 9 irons, pitching or sand wedges! Some nice picturesque holes but also a few bland ones. Will play there again, but maybe in the summer once a year.

Friday 10th May 2002. A nice course with spectacular views over Lancashire. Friendly welcome and advise from pro shop. If it's windy ... watch it!
