This is a 'must play' private members' course if you're in the area and is a real 'hidden gem'. The course itself is a fair challenge and combines some lovely wood-fringed fairways with a series of open parkland-type holes and a couple of evil little par 3s that will test your patience as well as your skill. Generally it's a fairly straightforward course with plenty of opportunity to score well if you keep the ball in play and, just as you think you've licked it, you're stood on the 18th tee looking down into a cardwrecking canyon that will give you a massive boost if you clear it but will give you nightmares if you don't. The course was very well presented and the clubhouse staff very welcoming and accommodating. We were unable to enjoy a post-round pint as the bar was closed but we'll look forward to that next time - in the meantime, our happy round will live long in the memory.

A quality parkland course which is over 100 years old, quiet and welcoming to visitors who, on arrival, will be impressed with the 13th century moated manor house which doubles as the clubhouse. The course features quality greens and a testing layout, the 'old nine' (1898) present one style of challange as they wind their way through mature trees in a quiet rural setting, the 'new nine' (1998) present a different challenge in an open setting, still quiet and yet challanging due to the usga style greens. The closing hole is one to remember, a par 4 played over a 170yd valley, a good tee shot will leave a 200yard second to a green guarded by a huge 100 year old beech tree.
