William Wroe Municipal Golf Course Player Reports

This course has many failings!
Uneven teeing grounds for a start - it is morally wrong to make non-members of Acregate play from the yellow boxes when there is a clear body of evidence which suggests that the white (back) tees are in use.
Re-design of the 1st and 2nd holes may alleviate bottle-necks
Removal of ALL internal OOB except for 1st/9th holes, where planting of fast growing trees along the right would do the same job.
Re-allowing woods to be used from the tee at the 11th. It is pure folly to say that the current situation is there to protect residents who live 200 yards to the left, as there is a significantly mature tree-line which protects them from the unlikeliest of poor shots from the majority of players (ie right-handers)
Allowing for play from the original tee for the 14th would re-introduce interest in what has become a tepid golfing experience - having to get over a line of trees on a L to R dogleg would add spice, as indeed would the removal of the "protective" OOB that follows this hole along the right hand side.
17th needs more features
18th needs some fairway bunkers along the right at around 200 to 250 yards.
The boundary fence needs to be an active deterrent to occasional vandals.
To say, as some reports may have intimated, that this is a pitch and putt course is a little wide of the mark. I could compare this course to Bentra in County Antrim, but I won't!

I played this having not read other comments about it, I now wish I had. 5 and a half hours to get round this course and it wasn't as if it was taxing! Front 9 ok with some good holes and a bit of variety, doglegs a plenty and accurate par 3s.
However the back nine is not. All the holes are the same, straight par 4s or 3s with a couple of trees in between the holes. It seems they have no marshalls as miraculously several groups joined at the 10th. On the plus side it was only £9 so value for money scores well.
If you are a beginner I would imagine this is a good track, if you have any sense it really isn't. For £2 more go to its sister course in Altrincham, much better day out.

played the course yesterday, it was ok just a bit boring on the back 9 which all the holes are the same nearly. im 16 years of age but the staff treated me like i was a 5 year old boy, and at 10 pound for the full 18 is a bit steep a few months ago i used to pay 4:50 for 18 holes. overall its a bit of a rip.

Played last night. Greens very poor. All the on-course OOB's need removing, as these only existed in the 70's when the majority of the trees were saplings. 11th should allow woods off tee as the trees to the left are now sufficient to protect the neighbours. The back 9 in general requires some enhancement, especially the last, as I was easily on the green in 3.
This course could offer loads more of a challenge! All the greenkeepers have to do is use their imagination!

Having played at all lof the other munis in the area we thought we would give this one a try. The positives are that the first 2 holes are fun, and some of the rest of the front 9 are OK, I agree with other comments that the back 9 are really very samey you only need 3 clubs!! The course was in good condition and the greens were pretty fair. But £13 is way too much for what is effectively a pitch and putt type of course - £6 would be fairer, playing behind lads with crates of Stella was another novelty, some of the play is incredibly slow took us 4 hours to get round this Par 63, the distances are wrong on the scorecard (the 11th is a particular joke). Very much a beginners course.

This course is brilliant for the novice, with its mainly par 3/4 holes. All though can still entertain the more aclomplished golfer, yet mainly due to its less than brilliant grounds keeping?
