What a beautiful course!! Didn't play particularly well around here but that didn't stop me enjoying what are lovely surroundings to play the game. The greens were first class, as were the tees, and we played it on a lovely calm Sunday morning, like others have said, heaven help you if the wind is blowing!!

Should I find myself back in the area, this golf course will be the first one that I return to. Play and enjoy,

North Wilts is typical of the number of Wiltshire downland courses that encircle Salisbury Plain and it’s surroundings, such as West Wilts, Upavon, High Post, Ogbourne etc.

We played it in the week for just £21, which is reasonable value for money considering what some much inferior places charge. The course has been around for ages and you can tell by the good and consistent condition of the greens in particular.

In terms of individual holes, the best sequence are numbers 5, 6 and 7. The fifth takes you up a steep hill with your approach being an exciting blind shot to the green on top.

The sixth is a BRILLIANT little Par 3 right on top of the hill, which I imagine can cause absolute carnage when the wind is up. It’s only 103 yards off the yellow tees but if you par it you’ll probably be running to the next tee grinning from ear to ear. In a way, it’s Wiltshire’s version of the Postage Stamp, and probably nearly as tough since the green is very narrow and also slopes wickedly off to the left and back while just off the right is a ghastly conical hollow which is nearly impossible to get up-and-down out of. Just in case you were wondering, the front is also protected by more hollows.

From 100 feet or so up on the hill, you can then let leash on the downhill seventh, which is a very inviting dogleg Par 4.

The course gives some terrific views over Wiltshire and even though it’s not quite long enough (e.g. no Par 5s in excess of 500 yards off the yellows) it’s still a good challenge, especially if there’s some wind around as, already mentioned, it's quite open to the elements and has some nightmare heavy rough in places. Definitely recommended if you’re in the Wiltshire area.

6.5/10

North Wilts is a great course. Challenging to all players. The rough is thick and can cost even the experienced golfer. The best holes are down the bottom. Great views can be seen from the top especially from the 6th which is a challenging little par 3 that is open to the wind. Definately a course to play in Wiltshire.

As already mentioned, a course of 2 halves with the first 10 holes on the hillside and consequently very exposed and the last 8 in the valley below. The 6th hole is particularly interesting as it is perched on the very top of the hill and is a 100yd par 3 consisting of a tee and a tiny, crescent shaped green which is a fiendishly difficult target on a windy day (not uncommon given the location!). Not the best value ever at £21 but worth a visit for the views alone!

A course of 2 parts. The first 10 holes on land above the clubhouse is reasonably interesting, but fairly wide open. The last 8 holes however are very good with a long downhill par 3 and following tight par 4 being the best. Very friendly professional and clubhouse staff. Wouldn't fancy it if windy, much of the course is very exposed. But on a warm, still day, a very enjoyable place to be.
