Played the Dukes recently on one of those rare sunny, calm and warm autumn afternoons. It was a pleasure and was that absorbed by the place did not notice the 'back and forth' thing. Some great holes, especially the 4th. The 3rd was made even better when i put it into 3 inches and the 12th to 3 feet. A beautiful place and a great experience.

I managed to play the Duchess for FREE recently after a friend gave me a last minute invitation to replace someone who had dropped out of a society day. Wow, what a brilliant course. I have played all three courses at Woburn now and I believe the Duchess to be the best of all. It is a tight driving course in immaculate condition. This is a very fair test of golf and you will not be disappointed by the course, the facilities and especially the food in the clubhouse!

Played the Marquis and the Dukes Monday 30th of Janurary and I must say I have never been so impressed with a days golfing, It was amazing!

Both of the courses were in top condition, a little wet in places, but obviously this is to be expected at this time of year!.

The Marquis, being the younger of the two I found a real challenge, but easier and more forgiving than the Dukes..

The hole that will stick long in the memory for me is the 7th, a stunning par five, with a fairway split by a line of pine trees, really is a magnificent hole, even at this time of year!

The Dukes again, was in fantastic condition, I have to admit though, there is a arrangement of holes that gives you that up and down feeling, and I never thought I would find that feeling on a championship golf course, but all in all magnificent, the 3rd is without question a sight to behold!!

The winter package deal of £75 for 36 holes and including a cavery is unrivaled and worth every penny, SNAP IT UP!!

Played the Dukes course a couple of weekends ago with a member. If your lucky enough to know a member and you play after 2.30 the cost is just £28!!

The course was in superb condition, with reasonably quick, true greens. As you would expect this is a challenging course for a mid to high handicapper - anything that does not stop on the fairway is almost guranteed to find a tree or some gorse. The magnificient par 3 3rd (you've all see it on the tv) is breath taking.

All of the other facilities are first class too. A well presented pro-shop with friendly staff, excellent locker rooms and a welcoming 19th. I expected to find the atmosphere stuffy, and whilst there is no shortage of affluence about the place or it's memebers, I was pleasantly suprised to find that it didn't come with snobbery.

Worth over £100 for visitors ? You would have to say that is questionable and depends upon your means, but it's probably the best £28 I have spent in a very long while.

Played the Marquess course and was totally impressed with the quality of the layout. This is a what I would describe as a huge test of golf but very fair. It's quite long off the yellows so off the back tees I'm sure it's frightening for all but the longest hitters.

Unfortunately, the greens were not in very good shape and were very difficult to read. We played after a morning of heavy rain and the course was very wet, almost waterlogged. Having said this though there were some world class holes and I would strongly recommend a game here. I rate it up there with other great courses I've played.

For Championship golf this is the best combination of value and quality you will get in the south of England.

I admit straight away - that the last time I checked a round on the Marquess/Dukes was £115 - I have had the fortune of not having to pay for my rounds for the past 2 years - working for the Bedford Estates. For those that think thats expensive bear in mind to play the West Course at Wentworth is £185 (for 1 round) - and 1 round on the Old Course at St Andrews is £110 - a different matter I know....but your talking the Premier League of golf you dont expect cheap round here!

I've played on all 3 courses numerous times, the toughest without doubt the Marquess - I also believe its the fairest - wider off the tees. The Dukes has the history, and the Duchess is very underrated.

Marquess; This is simply an awesome course - but beware, its still new and some areas are still bedding down - the fairways are extremly tight in places and when it gets wet its like hitting off water! However, this will change and in decent weather after a pretty tame 1st hole its just a string of world class holes until the 10th, and then through to 18 which is a bit disappointing for a course of this quality - 3 'disappointing' holes out of 18 - and when I say that, it doesnt mean their bad - just not as good as the rest. Whats great about the course is that even at 6,400 (yellows) - it allows players plenty of options - on the par 5 7'th - off the tee its left side of trees or right? How far back if your going to lay up - its like it all the way round. The best hole is the 12th, only 320 yards but I saw Clarke take 6 at the British Masters once, a brilliant hole.

Dukes: People will be familiar with a lot of the holes and it doesnt disappoint when you play it- the opening shot is intimidating for anyone who pulls (the Dukes is longer then the Marquess of the yellows) - but much about the Dukes is the ability to get the ball in play of the tee and putt. The stand out holes are the 3rd (you've all seen it!) 12th, 13th and 18th, but because it doesnt offer as many options as the Marquess - it doesnt give me as much pleasure.

Duchess: On its own, this is a brilliant course, in the shadow of the other 2, its lost somewhat but dont let it fool you. There are probably more enjoyable holes on the Duchess then the Dukes and will test your course strategy to the hilt. The first 4 holes are a sign of whats to come - distinctly less room off the tee and your approach shots need to be so accurate - the par 3 second has zero margain for error. The Duchess has more quirks and undulations then both the other courses, and there are several holes where hitting the fairway in the wrong spot is as bad as not being in the fairway at all. The greens are typically smaller, the bunkering more tight (though mostly around the greens, very little in the way of fairway bunkering - some severe undulations are more then enough). I'd say you'll be more surprised playing this then the others simply because you arent expecting its quality.

Off the course I have found it a thoroughly enjoyble place to be - plenty of other places try to have the 'posh' feel about it, but Woburn manages a smile and a warmth that places like Aspley Guise dont. Ive found the members to be far more pleasent people then others - there must be those who arent of course but I havent met them...I have seen Danny Wilson, Akabusi and Linekar there too....If you can play there, you will not leave disappointed.

One last tip- the Red Stripe is excellent!
