Wyke Green Golf Club Player Reports
Steve Koepke (USA) 02/06/08
I have played Wyke Green 6 times and have enjoyed my experience every time. The club members are very friendly and the course is a fair challenge to any level player. Lower handicappers might look at the scorecard and think a par 69 will play easy. This is not the case. With longer par 4's and some very subtle greens, going low at Wyke Green means the player has control over their entire game.
Being an American, it reminds me of our "park courses" or municipal courses in the States. With trains and cars passing closely by (the Piccadilly line runs along the 3rd hole and a major motorway runs along a few holes on the back 9) you know you are in London, but this is one of the draws to the course.
I highly recommend a round or two at Wyke Green and a pint (or two) after the round. You will not be disappointed.

Played on the 22nd Jan 2006.
Lots of long par 4's which are a great test.
I hit the ball fairly long so in good conditions a par 4 is a drive and a short/mid iron.
Because of the wet conditions the ball wasn't running so it left me with a long iron or sometimes a 3 wood for my second.
The fairways were lush, lovely condition for Winter and the greens were in fantastic condition, mainly I thought due to most of them being on a plateau.
Because the trees were bare, we were aware of the tube line next to course as well as the M4. hey what do you expect in the middle of west London.
Well worth a visit, we payed £15 for early bird 8-9 midweek. Fantastic value, In fact i would probably pay £30 in the summer.

I played Wyke on a hot day in July. The front 9 was rather bland and i managed to get out in +4, which is good for my handicap. Going into the back 9 I was slightly concerned I was going to take a serious chunk out my handicap - however it got a bit more interesting and my score was in the normal range after 18. At the end I was quite satisfied and felt there was enough of a challenge on the back nine to make another visit to have a go at it after work.
At the end of the day it's in a built up part of London and very handy to the A4. Therefore one cannot knock it, especially if it's handy to your workplace.
Travel further afield with Society's and at weekends.

Played here midweek July 06 (£18 using a county card).
I'd rate this overall about 6 out of 10.As a course i thought it was better than the nearby courses West Middlesex & Ealing but i'm not sure i'd go as far as telling someone to go & play here.It was o.k without being that inspiring although by the end of the round the course had grown on me a bit.
The good points are that it was very well presented ,it has good bunkering & there are a number of good holes (standout holes were 8,10,13,15&18,hence i preferred the back 9).The 18th inparticular is a very good finishing hole .Overall there seems to be a relaxed atmosphere around the club & it was nice sitting on the patio after the round with a drink.
The drawbacks were that there was a very slight municipal feel out on the course (people playing with their shirts hanging out, wearing ankle socks),quite a lot of the holes run up & down & are a bit samey & the noise from the M4 doesn't make for a relaxing round.(surprisingly the planes weren't a problem as you don't really hear them as the flightpath is far enough away).

I played Wyke Green in June 2006 and was very pleasantly surprised.
The course is a good challenge, quite narrow in places and with good strategic bunkering around landing areas and greens.
The course was also in fantastic condition - the greens were very true and the fairways were like carpet.
You can't say it is quiet what with all the trains, cars and planes buzzing around, but it is more than made up for by the quality of the course.
A great find so close to central London.
