Played here 2 months ago in a monsoon and had to come off after 9 and they gave us a compimentry round because of it. Played it again 08/08/08 in good conditions and was very impessed. the greens were superb even though I repaired 3 or 4 pitch marks on each other than my own. The fairways were also immaculate.A lot of the holes had huge elivation changes ( 50-100 ft )so choice of club would become easier on subsiquant rounds. A buggy is a must. The only letdown on the course was the tees, some were very scabby compared to the rest of the course. But dont let this put you off. Fairway distace markers would have been welcome as we didnt always pace from the 150 posts being in a buggy but this is a minor moan. A very warm welcome in the clubhose. The nice lady let me sample the larger I hadnt heard of before I chose. Also the all day breakfast at £4 filled a small hole. Overall a pretty good day.

I played the course on the 8th June 2007. The course was immaculate from the fairways to the greens. The views were spectacular and there was a great mix of holes. I would play here every day if it was on my doorstep. If you can get a game here, jump at it. I have played all the best courses in Portugal and this is up with them if not better. Definately worth getting a buggy as it is quite hilly.

Having only played once or twice a year whilst being a student, i recently decided to get back into the swing of things (excuse the pun). Whilst looking for courses to play, my mate mentioned a course i had never heard of before; Austin Lodge. He had never played it but had heard good things.
Well, we have played there twice in the last 3 weeks and plan to play again next weekend. It's an expensive habit but enormously enjoyable. It seems to take forever to actually reach the course but once there, you are not disappointed. The front 9 is the tougher, but the back 9 is still challenging, whilst allowing you to find some rhythm. The first round I shot 103, but the very next round, with the aid of a stroke-saver and a rounds worth of course knowledge, I managed a more respectable 92.
As you will no doubt be aware, It is a long course! The first round we carried and the temperature was in the twenties (in april!) so it was tiring stuff, but not anthing to be worried about. We opted for the buggy the 2nd time round and found the course more enjoyable, as you could take in the views whilst in the comfort of being sat down!
In terms of the holes themselves, even the par 3's require the combination of distance and accuracy. If you stray off the tee, then you are often punished, so don't always reach for that driver without careful consideration.
The tees are of a reasonably high standard, a few seem to have been neglected somewhat, but the greens were well cared for and certainly above average.
My mate and I are looking forward to the coming weekend, and our tales have already enticed a few more to join us!

We walked it on a warm morning and I'm glad it wasn't any hotter as there are two killer hills on the layout, though they helped make for an even more interesting course. Very scenic and every hole is a challenge. Will be going back very soon. Five par fives for a par 73 suggest how difficult it is
One small beef is the signposting which saw us wander along to start at what turned out to be the 5th, the 1st is tucked in near the sign for the driving range halfway to the 5th, something you would expect the staff to inform you about, but they seemed to be more interested in playing with the free internet on offer to punters than passing on information to golfers/customers.
We actually met a three-ball by the 8th as we finished the 16th who were looking for the 4th.. they made the same mistake as us but obviously didn't notice and started from the 5th.

One word – fantastic! This really was a great course and the best course for value for money that I have come across. It is a man’s course and buggy hire is recommended. I walked it and it was tough but you can do it. It is a pay and play course and you can see that by the state of some fairways, though I played it in the summer when no water was seen for weeks. Some of the greens were a bit patchy too but it just didn’t matter as the course provided so many challenges, with every hole being that slightly different. The bar was a pleasure to sit in before the round.
