Oake Manor Golf Club Player Reports

We played 29 holes on the second weekend in September as part of a golf trip to Somerset; We paid the full £35 day ticket (not the 2 FORE 1 as we booked it 6 months in advance), but it was still good value. It's the second year running we've played the course because we enjoyed it so much. As with previous comments, the course was in great condition, particularly the greens. With all the water around, it could be described as American in style. There's a good variety of holes, but my favourites were the ones where you approach the green over water (2nd, 5th, 6th & 15th). Don't be put off by all the water; if you hit it straightish, and play conservatively you can score well.

Me and my brother in law played this course on the 4/08/03. This course is one of the best I have played. The greens were brilliantly kept. The staff friendly and helpful, The hole are very challenging and a few wayward shots and it could ruin your round. With drink stations around the course, on a hot day they certainly help. I recommend this course to any player going down the Somerset.

I played this course twice on Mon 19/5/03 – on a 2fore1 day rate. Everything at this course was perfect -friendly staff, good food and most importantly a fantastically laid out course. There is water on 10 of the holes, but the course is not too long, so higher handicap players can enjoy it to. Excellent value for money I would have expected to pay 2 or 3 times as much for a course like this – highly recommended!

Barry Emery (England) 22/10/01

I played this course in the summer (2001) and found it to be in excellent condition. As with previous comments, there's a lot of water around but keep it straight and it is possible to get round with not many balls lost. The course is well laid out and has some exception views of the Someset countryside. The clubhouse facilities are excellent as are the practice facilities. One word of warning, if you are going to use the 2fore1 vouchers, they are only accepted after 10am and only for "all day" tickets, not single rounds, having said that, in the summer, it would be quite easy to have 1 round in the morning, utilise the excellent lunch menu (many people from Taunton just use the club to have lunch) and then walk it off with another 18 in the afternoon. I thoroughly enjoyed my round here and will be back for more next summer.

Nice course, especially if you're a duck. Usually fairly busy whenever I have played. Starts with a few par 4's and 5's before the more technical, wetter, challenging, "maybe I should sell my clubs" holes. Excellent for those who have shares in golf ball manufacturing companies.

Good facilities at the club house. Relaxed atmosphere; so important after an amphibious round of golf. Steady as she goes on the 18th if you want to avoid the embarrassment of chipping from between the picnic tables outside the clubhouse bar.

Called the Jewel in the Crown of Somerset by a report written when it first opened back in 1993.\r\nThe report was written in the SW Golfing News Newspaper.\r\nToday it is maturing nicely and is a good test of golf for all standards of player?\r\nLots of water on many holes catch the bad shot, but play well and you will reap the rewards!!!!! \r\nAmateur Course record is only 68 ( 2 shots under par )
