Worth playing if you can get on in the summer. I played a couple of weeks ago when it was warm and sunny. I couldn't therefore comment on what some of the other posters have said about it being 'like a bog' in winter but it does get very busy and like a lot of these new American style parkland courses, I guess it suffers in winter when wet.

However what I will say is that on a warm sunny weekday, this was one of the best course of it's type that I've played. The course is long and tough, but play it sensibly and you can do quite well, just remember to bring you best driving game!

Nigel Mansell has clearly invested a lot of time and money into this whole project. He isn't just trying to make a quick buck, he is a keen golfer himself (plays off scratch) and he clearly sees Woodbury Park as somehwere with huge potential. The clubhouse, facilities and hotel are excellent (although not cheap). All in all, very good.

I played Woodbury Park on 16/3/2006 and was disappointed. Although there has been little rainfall recently the course was a bog and was practically unplayable.

I question whether a golf course should charge a green fee when a course is in the sort of condition Woodbury Park was when I played it. At least I suggest they should make you aware when you book a tee time.

Also, the course signage was none existent making it difficult to find.

On the positive side however, I can see how there would be some interesting holes if the course was in playable condition

The main course, The Oaks, may well be good in dry weather, but when I played it in January it was a bog, large areas unplayable: viz the clubhouse notice that said trolleys were banned from October. Some members told me it was a great course for summertime. Good greens and a nice layout, but lousy drainage

Call for details (not me!!) but I understand that Woodbury are doing a great 'Winter-warmer' deal at the moment.

Min 4 people

Full English + 18 holes £18

18 holes plus buggy £20

Not bad on a great course normally £35 a round!!

We played the Oakes course at Woodbury yesterday Aug 25th. It was tough. The course is long and technical with plenty of water and bunkers the size of small housing estates. The 18th, mischeivously named The Splash, sits in full view of the terraced bar : very entertaining. One point to note is the small cafe between the 9th and 10th; very convenient on a hot day.

Although myself and my partner played awfully we both agreed that the course is first class. The design is one of challenge and diversity. We'll be back.

Weather: Overcast, Windy

I was very well received at Woodbury Park, and found the course in excellent condition.

The course provides an excellent test for all golfers, with relatively easy, wide par fours such as the 10th to very tight driving holes like the 2nd.

The ninth, SSI 9, is an exceptional par four. Well over 400 yards, uphill and into the prevailing breeze, with the second shot over a lake.

The 2nd and 17th require a very steady nerve off the tee, with the landing area being past a narrow funnel of trees.

In all Woodbury is a course well worth the visit. With the added attraction of possibly bumping into Nigel Mansell (who I understand has been instrumental in the construction of the course). His logo adorns much of the club memorabilia, and I understand the reception holds two of his old Formula One cars.

Give it a go.
