Weald of Kent Golf Course Player Reports

As I said in a previous report, looking forward to returning. Finally, I did. I forgot all about the course, ie. where the ditches and some of the water hazards are. My advice is if this was your first visit here, you should buy a course guide/planner. the 9th and last holes are good "trophy" holes. It is always to good to play an outstanding shot into the green in front of the clubhouse gallery.
2 for 1 vouchers make this an excellent way to spend £9.

A good course which presents a relatively forgiving course (with some wide fairways) to high handicappers but as said previously with some course management challenges for those trying to get a good score. The course is almost always in good condition and plays particularly well in winter with no winter greens and only one or two winter tees in the 3 years I have been playing it. The hedgehogs (fitted to trolley wheels)which are usually (but not always) required in winter are hardly a drag given that other courses in the area often prohibit trolleys altogether. Sand traps are plentiful but mainly a nuisance rather than challenging, although their placement on some of the par 4s challenges middle hitters. There are a number of water hazards on the longer holes. Some changes have been made to the course with the par-3 16th now having a much larger water feature and the front and back 9s were reversed not too long ago. The 2 par fives are not over long, the 9th featuring a ditch at the half way mark and a long second shot to reach the green (or car park). Most players lay up. The route from the 9th to the 10th takes you past the clubhouse which is handy for a visit to the loo or a drink, with golf shoes allowed into the pro shop and the toilet areas
With many holes on top of a hill the course can be affected by crosswinds. Overall a good course with many tee times being available later in the day at weekends. Average time for completion is 4 hours. Saturday mornings are difficult to obtain. The clubhouse is very good for a public course with reasonable quality food and beer in a large airy environment. The breakfasts are recommended.
My favourite winter course in mid-kent, reasonably priced and with excellent facilities.

I played here in late April as a junior, at i only £9 for 18 holes i disn't expect much, but boy was i proved wrong. The tees and fairways were perfect as were the greens fast and true. The food was great and the view of wathcing people hitting balls long into the 18th hazard was great fun.

I would just like to echo the comments about the amount of work that has gone in recently to the Weald of Kent. a thoroughly enjoyable experience for a mid to high handicapper, and improved because the layout has reverted to the original nines and the first shot is over a pond and, bravely, a ditch about 190 yards away from yellow tees. shouuld be fine on hot dry days, but wet clay will reduce the run in winter.
Much better definition of fairways and rough and yardage markers now inset in the fairways.
The club is to be applauded for its efforts on the course.
Improved beer would still be a bonus whowever!

Just back from my first visit here and had a very enjoyable day. Excellent and friendly atmosphere. Plenty of challenge for all levels. An enjoyable last hole coming down the hill and looking at the clubhouse. Used 2 for 1 vouchers, but even the full price would be worth it. Looking forward to returning.

The course has enough to allow both high and mid handicap players to enjoy the course.
The fairways are wide and forgiving for the novice but the ditches and water hazards mean that better golfers have to plan their way around the course.
The 9th and 10th involve driving over lakes. The 7th and 18th have lakes in front of the greens. The par 3 7th hole is currently having the lake extended which will encourage players to "go for it" rather than lay up and chip onto the green.
The course is in good condition all year round with trolleys always allowed (although in winter, rather annoyingly "hedgehogs" have to be fitted to the wheels)
There has been an improvement since a new groundsman was appointed and now the bunkers are filled and kept raked and the greens are in excellent shape.
The course marshalls are friendly as are the staff and the helpful pro.
An ideal course for a society and one of the best pay and play courses in the area.
