I have been using the driving range at the Manor for a while now, but this marked my first round on the 18 hole course.

I booked a tee time 3 days in advance, when the advertised price was £12.50 if I remember rightly. However, when I turned up for my round, I found the price had gone up to £20 that day. Not something you can really bemoan too much, but I did feel a little cheated that I wasnt told at the time of booking.

Considering the foul weather we were having at the time, the course was in pretty good condition. One hole (10th) was closed, and the 2nd was on a temporary green, but apart from that all was well. Play was from tee mats on all holes (no surprise there).

I thought the course was pretty good, but lacked a certain something. There are several lakes and ponds, but they only come into play on 2 occasions. Likewise, bunkers dont seem to feature that much (apart from the 9th, which is a very good hole that could be great if 50yds longer). The land the course is built on is not the most inspiring, although sensible planting has added to the interest.

Drainage was good, and the greens, while not the best, were all good too.

The highlight for me was the par 3 4th. An accurate tee short required over a densely wooded valley, with more trees to left and right. One slip and you can say goodbye to your ball.

The clubhouse is very nicely presented, airy and welcoming. Just lacked intimacy, and felt a bit 'corporate'.

The pro shop has a good range of just about everything you need. However, having once asked for advice on rescue clubs, I was just handed a demonstration club and told to take it on the range (at my own expense). What I was REALLY looking for was some decent advice!

Practice facilities are very good, comprising of a 20 bay range running out to 300 yards, a putting freen and a 6 hole par 3 course.

Overall, I would advise you to give the Manor a shot, but try to go when fees are reduced. I will be going back, but its certainly not my favourite course.

Playable all year except a couple of holes. Tees poor, need levelling off. Greens improving but still way too slow. A lot of pay and players/ societies for profit. Members brass just keep em going through the winter and pays wages, with no real input to the club. One of the most expensive around! The owners (Bill & Eric)are too involved in course conditioning which I think is preventing it from being one of the best in the area. Clubhouse great, pro's welcoming and friendly, pro shop well stocked with all sorts. About the same as a municiple without the crowds but costs twice as much.

I have just recently played at the Manor Golf Club with my chronies. The course is briliant i have never had soo much fun in my entire life. I had a quick lesson before hand with the teaching pro David Hey he is a very good teacher with a lesson only costing £11 it was a great bargin. Although i didnt learn much he still made me laugh which is the main thing. The course greens were in very good condition and i would say the tee boxes need quite alot of work but thats pretty much my only complaint ohh and the water features could come into play abit more as well as raking the bunkers and trimming them. i would score this course 8/10!!! RECOMENDED

A quite plain course, with perhaps only one signature hole that being the 16th par 3 over water. Usually well drained and well maintained.

Quite often find that the play is from temporary tees, even when ground conditions are good. The 10th and 11th holes are not very well planned and perhaps spoil the course a little. Otherwise for £20 ish per round it is quite honest value for money.

I have played this course many times over the past couple of years. At £15 for a midweek round it is nothing short of excellent value for money. The fairways and greens are kept in great condition. One or two tees are a little tired just now but the club are working on them.

The course is a challenge for all golfers, with some relatively easy holes and others a real test of skill and accuracy, especially the sloping 10th. Plenty of water to keep the ducks happy and great scenery.

Will continue visiting this lttle gem and highly recommend it to anyone in who happens to be in the Yorkshire area.

A well kept and maintained course and good value at £15 for a midweek round. Found the greens to be quite true, although not particularly fast. Thought some of the holes were quite bland such as the first, some holes you could get away with poor tee-shots like the second, some holes with ridiculous cross fairway slopes like the third and tenth, some ridiulous holes like the ninth where you have a better chance of missing the bunkers by aiming at the rough and some pretty picturesque holes like the sixteenth with a 9 iron over the pond. A good variety of holes, excellent facilities but a little slow going at times. Give it a try!

I have played golf at the Manor on many occasions. I have found it an enjoyable round of golf (with a little frusration) The course broken down Hole 1 Shortish par four straight couple of bunkers for miss hit drives - good hole to get warmed up on. Hole 2 tee off down a hill to a postage stamp green good chance of birdie. Hole 3 has a ridiculous slope from right to left which means that you have to get very lucky or drive the green 250 yards fantastic putting surface on this hole. Hole 4 daunting prospect of a 171 yard par 3 over a valley of trees & two well placed bunkers. Hole 5 long par four with wayward drives punished by the valley you have just teed over for the 3rd. Hole 6 a long par 4 that dips and slopes away with a good green. Hole 7 a dogleg par 5 with a good chance of birdie. Hole 8 a long par 4 fairly non descipt. Hole 9 a fantastic finish to the first 9 with a drivable green with more bunkers than fairway. Hole 10 is a nightmare which I may as well just throw a ball into the driving range before I start Hit anything from a 7 iron to a driver but you need to be very straight Hole 11 is an elevated tee with a postage stamp green Hole 12 is a very good long dog leg par 4 with a good green. Hole 13 is another long par 4 with a well placed water hazard. Hole 14 is a short par 3 with a green surrounded by bunkers (not too hard) Hole 15 is a long par 5? almost identical to hole 8. Hole 16 is a cracking par 3 with a large pond that says (hit your ball in here!) Hole 17 is another good par 4 with a water hazard for dreadful shots and a good green surrounded by bunkers. The final hole should be a par 7 as you usually play straight into the wind, up hill at a time when you can barely walk another step! Enjoy the course everytime!

Harry Putter (England) 01/01/03

Many new golf courses, built on unexciting terrain have imaginative use of water features and extravagant use of bunkering in their layout, the Manor fails spectacularly to utilise such features. The layout is the course's cheif letdown. There are far too many very poor holes, the 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 10th and 11th are pure Mickey Mouse holes, 3 and 11 in particular are shocking, here the designers have tried to squeeze holes into too little space. The greens are slow and bumpy, and the many water features barely come into play. If you're looking for a beautiful clubhouse and good driving range, look no further. If you're looking for a good, testing golf, you're sat on the wrong horse - 3/10

The Manor is a good course that could be a fantastic course. Just a few points of improvement could be made, such as cutting the rough back beyond the fairway bunker to the left of the 15th fairway to reward an accurate long drive taking on the afore mentioned bunker. The 11th green needs banking towards the fairway or else a bunker adding to the rear to catch well struck shots as they inevitably run off the back. The grass on the greens needs cutting shorter to speed them up as they can be awfully slow at times. Drainage pipes around the course need covering up as they are an eyesore. I am assured the club is looking into these aspects.

On the plus side the course boasts some great holes such as the intimidating though picturesque 4th. The links style 9th is great fun. The 10th an extremely tight par four that rewards two accurately struck irons with par and a feeling of accomplishment. The 13th 16th 17th and 18th where the lakes come into play are fine holes.

On the whole a great demanding course but as my old school reports used to say "could do better".

Very good course, first nine are steady and not to demanding, the ninth is fun !!! The back nine can be a bit more interesting, especially the 10, 11 and the 12th,where local knowledge of these three helps a lot.

Only complaint was lack of course map,for as we went round we tended to get slightly disorientated and had to ask for directions !.

A lot of new trees have been planted,so in five years time this may well become the best in the area.

The first thing you meet upon entering the drive,is the new £1 million clubhouse.A great first impression!A superbly laid out course, with great water features. The greens are most impressive.Smooth and true, with tricky undulations.Built to USPGA spec, these greens can take all of the rain mother nature can send.A good mix of holes, something for everyone. If you can play round 'Amen Corner'(10,11&12)only dropping 3 shots, you can give yourself a pat on the back!!

The facilities are superb.Covered floodlit driving range,6 hole par 3 course,2 putting greens, chipping area, practice bunker, and THREE teaching professionals,to help you with your game! The staff are all friendly, and happy to help.

The clubhouse is most impressive.Spike bar, lounge bar, super dining room, with views over the course.Catering all day,and a superb evening menu,Friday and Saturday, with Sunday lunch not to be missed.

I have been a member here for just about a year.I'm glad I became a member. It's a friendly club, with a keen set of competitive members.

One thing though. If the wind is blowing, bring your 'A' game with you,and a few spare balls!!!

Try the course, its a good test.
