i liked it so much i got the membership, the clubhouse is fantastic, from the changing rooms all the way to the bar, for a person fairly new to the game, the course is challenging but not overly so. as i get better so will the course in about 5 years time it will be fantastic!

the par 3 4th is a great hole that just has you looking at the water and stamp sized green and praying you can get there and stop it in time!!

the front and back 9 really compliment each other with varying holes on each section.

also a great par 35 9 hole course (the manor) can be found out the front a great place to warm up or have a quick 9 after work.

as i said so good i bought the membership. dont believe all you read about it being expensive £120 a month is reasonable i think and for that you get 5 day membership at three rivers as well!

I visited Stock Brook yesterday and was impressed with the country club as a whole. Great facilities if you've got the money! However, the clubhouse reminded too much of a hotel, whereas I like my clubhouses to have more of a pub feel. I played the Stock/Brook course (the longest of the possible combinations) and thought it to be quite a short course. In general, the fairways were in a lovely condition but the greens had just been spiked and sanded, so they were disappointing. Not being the best golfer in the world, I found the course to be relatively challenging but not overly. My playing partner (handicap 12) thought it was pretty easy. In summary, it was a lovely looking course and nice to play but not worth the hefty membership fee. I'm going to join Three Rivers (sister club) where the course is more challenging, the membership fee cheaper and where you get to play Stock Brook (Mon-Fri) free anyway.

I have played here a number of times this year and i must admit that its general condition is excellent, probably one of the best presented courses in essex. I agree with the comments below that some of the tree plantations should be in play and not GUR, but other than that a superb course and one that seems to get better with each passing year (apart from the trees which don't seem to grow much, but im sure with their resources they will sort this out in time!)

As a member for the last 2 years @ Stock Brook I find it hard to believe that anyone can say the quailty of the local public courses such as Basildon and Hartswood are in far superior condition in general compared to Stock Brook I have had the pleasure if that's what you call it of playing @ Basildon and the green's were not in good shape Even Stock Brooks least testing Manor 9 hole course greens are without dought FAR SUPERIOR.....

the clubhouse and facilities are paramount at this course apparently! But it is a good test and a very nicely appointed course. Water comes into play on one or two holes and makes you think about your shots. Greens average for the area but as it has not stopped raining this year the fairways are green and lush, although winter rules have already been applied. pity that free dropa are given from plantation areas which are fairly well established. I would recommend a day at Stock Brooke, most players would enjoy the surroundings. One small point... why all of the wooden full size cutouts of people dotted all, around the course? Answers on a postcard please!!

I have played this course on a few occasions. I tend to agree with Mr Taylor. The fairways dry out very quickly in just a few days and become like concrete with tight lies. The greens are slow and wooly and a little bumpy. It would also be far better if the GUR was in play. The course layout is good though. To be honest, the local public courses such as Basildon and Hartswood are in far superior condition in general.
