Played on 5th March after a frosty and snowy week, but all the greens were open and in good nick for the time of year. We enjoyed the course, which is situated in very pleasant surroundings only a short drive from Leeds city centre. The pro shop staff were efficient and friendly and there is a good bar/restaurant too.
There are some testing holes, especially if played off the back tees. Certainly worth the £23 weekend green fee and I believe they do 2 fore 1 during the week, which is excellent value.

Played the 18 hole (Wike Ridge) course last Sunday. Despite heavy rain throughout the preceeding 5 days, I was extremely impressed by the condition of the course. The fairways were not remotely soggy and the greens were great (in better condition than many courses in summer!).
The course design offers a reasonable degree of challenge. There are some v long par 4's, a long par 3, a couple of dog legs and some tricky greens (certain pin placements were appropriately nasty!).
However, the lack of mature trees and generous fairway widths mean that inaccurate play is often not properly punished. The former will be corrected as the course matures (there are many staked trees at present) but I do not understand the greenkeeper's generosity re the latter.
The course surroundings were pleasing (mainly farmers' fields) and the bar/cafe was nicely informal and comfortable.
All in all, very good. We didn't have any sort of discount (2 fore 1, etc) but did not remotely begrudge paying the full £23 for such a pleasant experience.

I have played this course over the last three years and there haven't been many noticeable improvements in this time.
There are several "nothing holes", such as the 1st, 2nd, 7th, 9th, 10th, 13th, 14th and the 18th which require very little skill and have some of the widest fairways I have ever played on.
On the plus side, I have never seen a temporary green in use and very seldon is a winter tee in use, and the greens are the bset I have played on in winter for any course in the area.
If the wind is blowing - rare for it not to be here, you'll want to take a good supply of balls for the 3rd hole - the wind is usully in your face and any hint of a fade/slice will see your ball heading for farmer Giles' out of bounds field - double figures is not unusual for me here!
Achieving par on the 3rd when it's windy is an achievement!
On the whole, a good course for the money - nice informal clubhouse with good value food and drink and you'll probably bump into the 6-time Ryder cup player Howard Clarke!

Played today for the first time 5/1/04.
Early January and still playing off summer tees and using summer greens also no trolley ban either.
Course in excellent condition, 1 or 2 fairways a bit soggy but still very playable, greens excellent and consistant.
Generally a very good day out.
Facilities very good and value for money as good as it gets i used a 2 fore 1 voucher and it cost us £6.50 each. even full cost at £13 is good.
If i could rate this course and facilities out of 10 i`d give it 12.

After a lot of rain the 18 hole course played very well. The greens particularly worth a mention. The fairways ran true and although not overly long, an good test. All the usual facilities and at 14.50 extremely good value.

A challenging 12 holes, an ideal Friday afternnon round! Mainly straight up and down but there are a couple of challenging holes, a favourite being the quarry with its two-tiered green. Well worth a visit at £6 a round.
