The Wychwood Player Reports

At 6575 yards offf the yellow tees, The Wychwood is a bit of a monster for a short hitter like myself.
Luckily the rough is fairly non existant otherwise it would be very punishing.
The course is in excellent condition, especially the greens. These were some of the best greens I've played on. They are totally consistent throughout the course.
Off course facilities are good.
Overall would recommend the Wychwood but be prepared to struggle to play to your handicap.

Played on 10 May 2006. Course in wonderful condition with great attention to the 'cosmetics' although the greens were a little slow. The green staff said this was due to a Pro/Am to be played 2 days later so had not cut the grass close. Staff were great.
The food afterwards was a delight ! Steak & Kidney pie with all the veg was worth going for

A truly excellent course. As I drove into the car park for the first time I thought "Oh dear, a wide open, lifeless course2. How wrong I was, every hole has a feature to test golfers of all standards-the rough isn't too punishing for the higher handicaps but the dog-legs, fairway bunkers, lateral water hazards and water on numerous holes will make low scores only possible for the accurate players. Superb fairwys and USGA greens are faultless and the way the gras is cut so short around the bunkers is just cruel! Highlights include the 8th (only makeable in 2 after a long drive) 11th (perhaps the most picturesque green I've played) 14th (daunting 100ft trees, a bunker so large it has it's own tree, water up the right with the fairway cut right into it, and a lateral burn exactly where you're second is likely to land) and then the 260yd 18th with 5 bunkers in exactly the right places. Add all that to a cheap range using XL3000's to loosen up and a 6 hole par 3 course for practice and you have yourself a fine complex. Afterwards you have the enjoyment of sinking a cold one on the roof terrace whilst watching people go for eagles on the 18th, and undoubtedly fail. 10/10

Played the course as part of a society, having played some of the nicest courses in the area this year I have to say that Wychwood compares very favourably. I must compliment the ground staff, the course was in tip top condition and the fairways were the best I've seen. A good test of golf, some very well thought out holes, fast developing into one of the best courses in the locale.

Found the course very challenging, yet thoroghly enjoyable, especially the signature hole. I lost a number of balls, but found the coarse management to be excellent - I ended the day by adding 3 new balls to my collection!
Highly Recommended and will return with my chums!
