Barnham Broom Hotel & Golf Club Player Reports
Jon Ponsford (England) 28/05/08
Made our yearly visit to Barnham Broom, staying in the lodges that line the 18th fairway for 7 nights playing 18 holes a day. Five gentlemen of a certain age and a younger whippersnapper, whose handicap we soon cut to 1, and we don’t use buggies.
The Hill course is improving year on year, but it is still fairly open, with only its collection of bunkers to defend the good quality greens, but it’s a good test and an ideal way to warm up for the challenge of the Valley course.
On the Valley, there are no two holes the same; most holes have tree lined fairways with several streams and ponds to swallow plenty of balls. All the par threes are a real challenge and can play several clubs different each day, depending on the wind direction. Perhaps the 2nd, 5th, 8th and the 12th offer the best birdie opportunities, but beware the 9th and 10th for the rattle of golf ball off the very mature trees is a common sound.
In our view this is the best venue for golf and relaxation in the south east, we shall continue to visit each year for the foreseeable future

Stayed here in early May 2007 (paying 82 pounds for two rounds of golf, dinner and B&B via Golfbreaks). Overall I would say it's good value at that price.
Golf-wise we played the Valley course first and it was interesting, with good greens and a varied layout. Some holes were tricky (the ones around half way round), but the back nine was fairly easy. Overall I played five shots under my handicap (16), carding an 83.
The following morning we played the Hill course: it is not as good, despite a promising opening few holes. The back nine specifically (holes c. 12-16) are very up-down-up-down (if you know what I mean) with no punishment for wildly mis-cued drives. Overall I actually played five shots above my handicap on this course (carded c. 92), mostly because I ended up in a lot of bunkers.
On BOTH courses the greens are really good, particularly so on the Hill course (which partly makes up for the fact it is the less-good course overall!).
Off the course, the hotel is excellent: friendly young staff and good food. The rooms are also excellent.
Overall, recommended.

Played on a lovely day in Easter 2007. Was lucky to play both courses over the day, and can honestly say that Barnham Broom is a fantastic venue. The Valley was tight with lots of water hazards and a challenge to any player. The Hill much more open but with excellent bunkering was easier but not by much! The clubhouse is excellent, the food very good and the Pro Shop has a fantastic range and was reasonably priced as well. Im really looking forward to returning, and would highly recomend Barnham Broom.

Have just returned from a 2 night stay. Every part of the break was excellent. From the welcome, service, meals to the golf itself.
The valley course is the best one of the two. It is a challenging course and is in superb condition seeing as there has been no rain for weeks. Would love to play it again. The Hill course was good too, greens were good again. It has very wide fairways and not so much character as the Valley but still well playable.
The breakfast and meals were very good.
Would recommend this to any one.

Have just returned from a one night golfbreak at Barnham Broom, paid £72.50 with Golf and leisure breaks, which included, Bed Breakfast evening meal, use of leisure facilities,(swimming, sauna, steam room, squash and tennis) and a round of golf on both courses, what a great deal it was. Played the Hill on Sunday afternoon, Lovely course with wide fairways, lots of greenside bunkers, virtually surrounding most greens, if this had been the only course ,we would have been more than happy, On the monday afternoon we played the Valley, tight tree lined fairways, a really picturesque course, lots of hazards to go over with water coming into play on lots of holes. All 4 par 3 holes are testing ,but my favourite hole was the par4 tenth. All in all Barnham Broom is a fantastic place for a golfbreak, at a bargain price, so if your looking for somewhere , Take a look at Barnham Broom
