Puckrup Hall Golf Club Player Reports
Kev Mundy (England) 27/05/08
Our anual spring tour with 22 player ranging from 9 to 28 handicap.
And i can honestly say it was well worth the visit,
Golf course was challenging with a good mix of long and short par 4's
the 3rd and 12th were real good golf holes where 2 good shots were rewarded.
Par 3's were all tough exception being the 2nd, but being such a short little hole with a little brook in front it didn't matter.
There were 3 X Par 5's the best being the 4th where water all down the left made the drive and second shot accuracy the key.
Hotel was comfortable and the food was superb.
The staff including the pro shop were very friendly and looked after us and made our stay a very enjoyable break.
With-out a doubt we would return.

On visiting Tewkesbury over Bank Holiday weekend, four of us decided to play Puckrup Hall. On the whole, it was an enjoyable experience with a wide variety of holes. Some of the par fours are driveable (we played off yellow tees), one of them I reached with a five wood! The course is not too difficult, with three of us playing under our handicaps. The only main crtisism I have is the state of the bunkers. Most of them have very poor sand in them which was quite hard. Overall though, the greens are good, the fairways are good and it wasn't at all busy, despite it being a Bank Holiday. I do think that £35 is a little too expensive (and £25 for a buggy is definitely too expensive) but we all agreed it was an enjoyable round.

I played this course twice at the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. There's something here for everyone. The course is reasonably forgiving for high handicappers yet still a challenge for better players. The greens were good - fast and surprisingly true (since they had been recently spiked). Fairways were parched and a bit sparsely grassed. There are many trees but not a lot of rough. Whilst I didn't have a bad experience myself (4 hours) I did hear stories of 5 1/2 hour rounds the day before! You often get this a t hotel-based courses. Bar food was mediocre but the evening meal was good. Hotel rooms of a good standard (larger than average). I will return.

AN EXCELLENT COURSE SET IN VERY PLEASANT SURROUNDINGS. IT IS NOT A HIT AND HOPE COURSE, STRATEGY OFF THE TEE IS A MUST. THE GREENS WERE VERY FIRM AND COULD HAVE DONE WITH WATERING, BUT THEY DID PUTT TRUE. THE PAR 5 5TH, THE TRICKY PAR 4 17TH & THE FINE FINISHING PAR 3 ARE HOLES TO NOTE. THE COURSE ALSO HAS SOME LONG TESTING PAR 4'S, THE 3RD & 12TH ARE PARTICULARLY DIFFICULT.

Puckrup Hall Golf Course is quite simply a delight to play. The course would challenge all abilities with some very well placed hazards.
Don't bother trying to cut the dog leg off on the 17th as you have no chance unless your name is Tiger Woods. Good course in good condition, well worth a jolly day out.

Puckrup is a good test of golf for all handicappers with some very good holes although I found the front 9 a lot easier than the back 9.The greens were very hard for the time of year (September) and nothing held you had to play short and let it roll on if the bunkers allowed. Our society (Shepperton Golf Society) had a great tour here with most players scoring just below their handicaps. With regard to the 17th hole boom one over the trees if you can and you can reach the green, a great par 3 finishing hole over a lake. The staff were in the main friendly and attentive and the food was ok, a special mention must go to our waitress Wendi who looked after us superbly throughout our visit.
