i found this course a bit boring and the clubhouse service was ok but nothing to shout about. the green were ok, but the fairways had many rabbit and mole holes. the views of the hampshire countryside are beauitful it was a shame that most of the views are of mud and buildings sites. the saving grace was the cost. however i would never return even if you paid me. over all a bad day

Don't be put off by its rather grandiose name, this is a reasonable value for money parkland course in the rolling Hampshire countryside. Despite being well over 10 years old it still has the feel of a new course with delicately rooted grass on the fairways and plantations still at sapling height. The course is very open with wide fairways and well cut back rough. Greens were in good condition, interestingly sculptured and difficult to read, but most of the bunkers could do with more sand and less stones. A fair number of blind shots and a lot of left to right dogleg fairways; the 9th being particularly strange where a drive cutting the corner of the dogleg goes straight over the 10th green. A course where your score should benefit from being familiar with the layout. It was very quiet when we played, indeed I think we were the only ones on the course. Not a "wow" course, but worth its lowish green fee.

I have recently played this course and I would say that the course was in excellent condition the greens were true and fast, the golf course overall was a delight to play.

The staff were very helpful and friendly.

I would recomend this course to anyone regardless

of playing ability.

I have just played this course on 18/07/04 and too be honest whilst I found the day to be a challenging and ejoyable one.

However I do agree with some of the other comments that the course could do with a little work on its greens (there seemed to be a large amount of mushrooms growing all over the course!!) and particulary its bunkers which did contain way too many stones.

But overall I found the experience to be a throughly enjoyable and fun one. The staff are very friendly, helpful and certainly seem to welcome visitors.

We played on the weekend of 5/6 June 04. Having read the prior comments before playing we arrived with a great deal of trepidation (it was the only course in the local area we could book at short notice!).

Frankly I found the previous comments to be well wide of the mark. Most of them seemed quite dated and, I guess, improvements most probably have been made. Not everything was right and below I list the pros and cons of The Hampshire:

Cons:

Variable sand in the bunkers

Slow greens

Too many "plantation areas"

Tees were a bit scrappy

Long walks between greens and the next tee.

Too many blind tee shots

Pros:

Friendly staff

Cheap (with a 2-fore-1 voucher)

Greens were true

Fairways in good condition

Rough was maintained at a reasonable level

Interesting holes

Stunning scenery

Bar (and patio area) were fine

The name is a bit grandiose

I play to a 10 handicap and have played on many worse courses than this. I did see people working on the course on our second visit and these people were polite and courteous. Despite the previous comments, I would recommend that you give it a try. You'll certainly enjoy the view if nothing else.!

I have played at the Hampshire Golf club many times now and I have never seen a Greenkeeper at work once! The bunkers are in terrbile condition, there are more stones than sand. The tree's planted haven't grown and the rough that sorrounds them is very thick so you get a free drop if you manage to find your ball. It could be a great course if high maintanence took place and was kept up regulary and for the price's they charge you'd think it was a top course. Don't go there, please!!!!!

Quite frankly, it is abominable!! Tees in terrible shape, fairways awful, bunker edges ragged...I could go on...Oh O.K...the bar is an awful size, considering the size of clubhouse.

Yes, you've gathered it by now, it's plainly poorly looked after and although I scored well, I cannot recommend it under any circumstances. Besides, with so many other, better courses to play in Hampshire, you don't need to go to this one!!

As with the letter above I too have played this course several times in the past 3 to 4 years. I must agree that the course is in need of a lot of work and is not worth the green fees.

Tee boxes are not flat or well maintained, fairways are only reasonable and keep being brought in. Greens are beconing smaller as they try and save money, rough is awful, and the plantations are very bad. You cannot play out of the plantations, you get a free drop if you find your ball, a penalty if you don't. This is the excuse for not cutting the grass between the tree and the reason the tree don't grow. The out of bounds on the right of the 17th was put there in a fit of pique by the owner. It now makes this otherwise nice little hole almost a par 5 for the seniors and ladies.

If you have £25 to spend on a round, have a hamburger in Andver centre then go and play somewhere else, anywhere else.

The above is said with sadness, the course could be a little gem, worthy of anyones money. But won't be until management improves.

"The Hampshire" doesn,t it sound grand, well nothing grand about this one i,m afraid.

arrived in plenty of time but had to wait half an hour for breakfast,so went out for some putting practice only to find it is members only putting green (ever heard of that before?)but no non members putting green available.teed off on course which is obviously a victim of the early nineties craze of theres a big field lets put a golf course on it,went into bunker on first hole to find stones as big as 20-30mm abundant on and in the sand so much so my playing partner damaged his sand iron.the further we went round the tees became terrible i would think the boxes have not been moved for a month.the fourth hole is way and above the best hole on the course a lovely par 3 with an elevated tee position, condition of the fairways and greens were good but would like to play the 16th when they have the pin on the elevated section of the green.played this on the 2 for 1 ticket and it was a fair price but to play it without it would not represent value for money,very similar in layout to test valley but not as challenging.

I have played this course two or three times a month for the past three or four years, thanks to a corporate passport.The saplings do not appear to have grown an inch at all, the tees on some holes are overgrown and poorly maintained and some of the fairways are awful.

The greens have improved though, the course has a great potential if looked after properly, holes 3 round to 9 are nicely laid out and 11-16 too, hole 17 has become more of a challenge with out of bounds down the right and 18 is a mess at the moment with all the excavation work going on at the moment. Not worth the visitors green fees though. Driving range doesn't look as if it gets mown much either.

A young course in superb condition. Fairways and greens were in excelent condition and maximum use of the coutryside and natural contours make it a pleasure to play. Well worth the money.
