JUST PLAYED BOTH COURSES WITH OUR SOCIETY. THE FENS GREENS WERE IN A VERY POOR STATE BUT, AS AGREED ON THE DAY, IT IS CHEAP AND IDEAL FOR BEGINNERS. EVERYONE ENJOYED THE LAKES COURSE WHICH WAS IN GOOD CONDITION AND A GOOD CHALLENGE FOR THE MID & HIGH HCPS.

Having now played the fen course several times. As a beginer I found it hard but forgiving. The greens leave a lot to be desired, at the time they were heavily cut up.But at under a tenner for 18 holes I can be forgiving. I would recomend any new starter in the area to use this course.

Well done Benjamin, you obviously did well in English classes.
The Fens course is simply; 'you get what you pay for'. As a beginer the course is excellent it's straight, flat and has relatively wide fareway's. It is flat as it has been constructed in a fenland area due to the biggest underlation being a mole hill.
Even as a player with a decent handicap, the course can be challenging. The green's and fareways are in good condition and growth of tree's and surroundings are in good health.
However, the Lakes course is in a different league. Very challenging and a superb 'links' course.

Keen for a quick 18 holes I have just played the fens course. Its flat a bit boring ,surprizingly long ,has good greens that are a bit small and is good value for money .The front 9 are a plain but in winter conditions the 3200 yd back nine requires good hitting .I cannot see this as a course for the begginer in the winter because of the need to hit fairly long .If you want to keep your hand in give it a try .5/10

Me and my mates have been to the fen course at Thorney several times now.Being new to the game we are generally impressed with the course however, the greens can be better with divots like bunkers ruining cruical putts. Also we are impressed by the barmaid, we feel she has a lot of potential. The bar is friendly, there is a pool table...what more can u want.

this course is in the middle of the fens and if you like it flat and no hills then this is o.k. a little bland at times with hardley no trees but a few lakes that do come into play the price is reflected in the course but worth the effort to play the lakes course. will get better with age. the club house is both warm and friendly with hot snacks available all day a bargain
