My cousin and I visted the golf course week just gone and I must say I was suitably impressed with the overall content of the whole golf club.

We played all three of the courses, Essex, Herts and Cambs and they are all different in their own right. There are some teriffic holes on all three, however a number of driveable par fours kind of let it down and I can imagine the pro's on the Euro Pro Tour murder the course when they visit!!

The greens on the first weekend in March were fantastic, well covered and roll very true, personally I couldnt find a single thing wrong with them! The fairways were lush, well covered and drain superbly to really give you an all year round course (something the club prides itself on!).

The club house is exceptional, a 14th century renovated barn, what more can you say??? Its unique!!!

Apart from being an open course and lacking signature holes you have to play this trek, well worth it, £32.50 for 27 holes on a Championship Course!

Played here with our society recently, the first 9 holes were played in very heavy rain the second nine in clearing sky’s and eventually sunshine. I raise those facts first to set the scene on this course.

First the positive aspects: the venue is well signposted, an imposing entrance and superb drive leading to a good car park and very interesting clubhouse. Onto the course, good size tees, and greens, which were in poor condition as were the fairways, and numerous bunkers. But, it was the utter blandness and lack of definition that seriously lets this course down; it is featureless, flat and boring.

The staff were pleasant, and the three course meal was good, we did feel a little rushed both before and after the meal, with little time to have a drink or two.

I have played on this course twice now. At first sight, it looks to have a really impressive clubhouse but a very flat 27 holes. The comments on this site from way back in 2000 about it being good for ploughing competitions and nothing else start to have some resonance. But when you actually get playing it is actually quite a nice course. It is much more undulating than first appearances suggest and some of the holes are really quite beautiful. With the wind blowing, the course has a linksy feel and with its wicked rough is challenging without being a shaggy monster. The Cambridgeshire course is the pleasanter than the Essex (I have never tried the Herts). Prices are low (C. £15 for 18 holes)although the high cost of balls in the very sparse pro shop is a bit annoying. I think it is fair to praise the 19th hole as everybody has been doing. Overall: relaxed non snotty atmosphere, pleasant course, and the comments about ploughing competitions seem totally unfair.

Over the last 18 months, Heydon Grange has improved so much . I've been pleasantly impressed with course improvements and the whole place is on the up again after a period of standing still . All the staff ( including the greenkeepers )were welcoming and helpfull and i took the time of having a lesson with their new teaching pro ,who has helped my game improve tenfold .The clubhouse is stunning and proves to be an excellent 19th hole ! I believe that in Aug 03 Heydon Grange will be hosting a CELEBRITY GOLF DAY , i've got my name down already ! All this has prompted me to join as a member in april , check it out for yourself , don't take my word for it !!!

We live in Far North Queensland, very tropical and quite beautiful we have every ecosystem except snow within a radius of one hour. My handicap is 11 my husbands is 14. Every 2nd year we visit England to see family and friends, our journey takes us from Wiltshire, Cornwall, to Cardiff and Tenby, Peterborough through to London and down to East Sussex and Kenley through to the Airport Heathrow. We actually plan our journey in the north of London to include Haydon Grange, we would not go past it, it is a must. The course would stand up anywhere in the world, and I have played extensively around the world, of course it is not Augusta in USA, but it certainly suits all levels of Golfer. The only drawback as far as travellers go is the fact that they are not allowed to have accommodation, if they did we would spend a longer time there. The establishment are like family, they treat you that way and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The owner is a very generous and genuine person, making sure you have everything you require. What more can someone say except I look forward to my next game at Haydon. I love it.

One of the few courses open all year! Definitely a requirement when you just need that game of golf!! If you've not been then this is worth a visit for the peaceful surroundings alone.
