Princes Risborough Golf Club Player Reports

I played Princes Risborough 30.12.04 and found a delightful 9 hole course on a perfect sunny winter's day. Being located up high on the Chiltern Hills, clearly makes this a well draining course as the fairways were remarkably dry for the time of year (almost linksy type fairways in parts). A decent variety of holes with the land available; 2 par 3's and 7 par 4's. I particuarly liked the par 3 3rd (140yds) which played straight into the wind, with the green protected by a sleepered bunker front left and another bunker front right. Also the par 4 seventh was a nice hole driving fom an elevated tee to a sloping fairway. If you're able to hold the fairway you need a shortish iron to hit the green which is sunken down below the fairway at a slight dogleg right, again protected by 3 bunkers. All in all, i agree with the previous reviewer - a nice friendly course and certainly one that can 'bite' in places. Good value on 2-fore!-1 too at £8.25 for 18 holes. Just one word of warning about the bar - watch out for dirty glasses - our group all had grubby ones!

A beautiful smaller course set in the heart of the Buckinghamshire countryside, Princes Risborough is the perfect course for a friendly game of golf. The atmosphere on the course and in the clubhouse is laid back and relaxed, and the membership friendly and helpful. The course itself makes up for it's lack of distance with carefully placed sand and water hazards, and makes full use of the slight slopes here and there to make sure your ball rolls into trouble! Watch out for the railway line flanking the second and seventh holes, it seems to magnetically attract tee shots, and beware the lake on the fourth which looks clearable at 200ish yards but tends to play a little bit longer. The course does not contain much difficulty and would not present much challenge to a professional, but I would recommend it to anyone wanting a pleasant afternoon out as it's not too hard to shoot a respectable score!!!
