Whitefields Golf Course Player Reports
Nick Kaye (England) 31/07/06
Whitefields is a very pleasant course set in a picturesque location. It has plenty of dog-leg par 4 holes but, being a very open course, these can often be cut, making the course play quite short.
I thought the greens were in tremendous condition, bearing in mind the recent heat-wave and, despite obviously receiving quite heavy traffic, the fairways stood up well. The 13th hole is probably the most memorable, running alongside Draycote Water - it's an uphill par 4, playing off a heavily banked fairway. The 15th is aptly named 'Temptation', being a 240 yard par 4, the choice being to attempt to carry the 2 cunningly placed ponds or lay up short - a real 'risk & reward' hole.
A word of warning - the pace of play can be quite slow.
There is a driving range, putting green and chipping area/practise bunkers.
The weekend golf package of a round on the Saturday, dinner, accomodation, breakfast and another 18 for £95 is excellent value.
Highly recommended !

the course is very short and not challenging enough for low handicappers even off the white tees, several of our group shot well below our handicaps on first visit to course.
course was generally in good condition, but the pace of play was very slow, with waits of over 10 minutes on each hole (sunday 11am tee off time). It seemed to be a course that was welcoming to beginners and we were following about 3 groups of them. pro shop staff freindly and helpful, but hotel staff seemed a little 'confused'. bar area lacked any atmosphere, more like a cafe.

The course is very good, but lacks depth in bunkers. The greens are underlating enough and are too slow.
The back nine is much easier than the the back nine.
Beautiful views, £25 is a bit steep.

I played the course today, as a guest of a member, which definitely helped as regards direction etc. The tees and greens were in generally excellent condition, very tricky with all the borrows and different levels, the bunkers, of which there are quite a few, were disappointing with the depth of sand in them.
You need to score well and take your chances on the front nine as the back nine is far more difficult, but the views are better.
I would recommend this course for societies, with the wide fairways and limited rough, encouraging a steady speed of play, there were numerous seats to rest your legs whilst waiting for the par threes to clear. Whilst we didn’t eat, the menu looked good and reasonably priced.

Just came back fom a 2 night golf break. The couse is excellent, good greens and some great holes especially on the back 9. Perfect for societies, play from the white tees to make it more callenging.
The hotel was great, food fantastic and service superb.

A very pleasant parkland course which when the wind blows is a good test of golf. Fairways are generous and the greens are very good. The only negative I have with this course is that there are a number of internal out of bounds which are there in "the interst of safety". Hopefully when the young trees that line the fairways have established in a few years these will be taken away. An enjoyable days golf.
