I last played this course nearly 2 years ago and was very critical of its condition, particularly the then appalling state of the greens. I have now played again taking advantage of their excellent value £9.99 early bird offer.
I am happy to say that the course is now in good condition for a heavily used pay and play facility. The greens now really look like the real deal, though a touch slow for my taste. It is a fairly open parkland course, not overly challenging except for 3 of the 4 par 3s, which are long and difficult to hit with the 3rd hole in particular having the direct route well guarded by a pond and bunker. The 15th SI 2 is also a bit of a monster par 4 at 460yds with suitably placed upslopes to kill the run on the drive and approach.
A course I would now happily play again, at the right price.

Played at this course for the first time today, and was quite impressed from start to finish. I was warned that the club "lost their greens" during the summer but they are all back to a reasonable standard now (although far from perfect.) The course starts with two very easy holes but gets tougher as the front nine progresses. Highlights of the course are the 3 (out of 4) long par 3's.

Course is in good condition, however be warned the greens are awful, they are patchy and do not run true at all, putting is practically impossible. The bunkers are also in need of re-sanding
I played this course a few years ago and it was of a much better standard all round
Think long and hard before spending £24 whilst the greens are in their current condition
The clubhouse and facilities were os their previous high standard

A few years ago I used to play this course regularly and decided to take advantage of their £9.99 twilight rate that on paper looked excellent value at this time of year. I was hugely disappointed in the state of the course, it seems to have gone to rack and ruin. The greens were completely unplayable for proper golf having been totally burnt out by the current spell of hot weather so that there was barely a blade of green, and they were full of cracks and holes. If you can imagine putting on a carpet of completedly dried out cracked moss, that's about right. The course layout is farily open parkland, quite interesting and makes you think about whether to go for it or lay up. The par 3s are a particular challenge with a 230yd monster and others around 180+ with pond guards. I wouldn't play it again unless I hear the greens are back.

I have played at Blue Mountain over the last few weeks and without doubt this course is in as good condition as any of the others I have played lately. Tee boxes are a bit ropey but not too bad considering it is Winter. Greens are good. Players could take more time to repair divots on fairways and pitch marks on greens which does not seem to happen as well here.
Catering and bar are good with freindly staff.
Always be prepared to take 5 hours to play as it does really back up 10 through 15.

Played here on Wednesday 07 December (£16 using a total golf card ).
Better than your average municipal.Considering how popular this course seems to be the overall condition was good .It looks like they spend time & money on the conditioning .The enormous greens (I don't think i've seen bigger) had good surfaces & were quick for the time of year.Rough was a bit wormcasty in places .
Quite well layed out & a good mixture of short par 4s & tough par 4s.
I marginally preferred Bird Hills to here but if you play here you shouldn't come away disappointed .I'd say the normal weekday green fee of £20 is a bit high & £16/£17 would be about right.
We had a clear run as we started at 1p.m but i imagine it could get busy here.

Makes me laugh reading what some people say about golf courses "big tree's in the middle of roller coaster fairways" Damn those course designers for putting trees in Fairways! lol
I played Blue Mountain for the first time recently and it was snowing, yes snowing! For the first 5 holes it was almost blizzard like and tricky to play in, our society battled through and by the time we finished the sun was out and the course looked superb.
Even in these harsh condition we all had a great day, the course is good for a recent build and some of the holes are genuinly tricky. I found the course to be highly enjoyable to play, and to be honest I dont think Pine Ridge is "far superior" at all. I play Pine Ridge a lot and I thought BM was equal to it, OK Pine Ridge is a better looking course with no houses looking over it but ....do not discount BM at all. For a public course its a good one. I can think of a lot worse in the area!!!
As a society we were made to feel welcome and the facilities were good, the society packe was superb and we all had a great day. Some of the guys I played with tell me it is a great course in the summer, and these are seasoned low HC golfers.
Stop moaning about the grass being the wrong shade of green and go and enjoy your golf!
**Pro shop is tiny - only bad point!

Played Blue Mountain Late afternoon in July. Not too crowded, surprisingly, in hazy conditions. I usually play at the Downshire, but couldn't get on, as they are always fully booked. Unfortunatley, i have to say that Blue Mountain is not up to the Downshire's standards. There are too many blind driving holes, a lot of fairways are too close to other ones, and a lot of them lack any definition. On the back nine, there a lot of rollercoaster fairways, and large trees bang in the middle! However the greens are very true (but incredibly fast!). I sank some wonderful borrowed ones (great for the ego!). Generally though, not up to the slight premium you pay at the Downshire, and only slightly less than the vastly superior Pine Ridge in camberley. Sorry!

Greens in very good condition at the moment, although fairways could do with a cut. Tee boxes could be a little flatter....
Richard Hobson (England) 04/04/03
A friendly, open course in general with a few very challenging holes. Most natably the 227 yard par 3 which is then followed by a 459 yard par 4.
The greens never quite look their best and the fairways are very bumpy in the height of summer. Best to play in spring or autumn when the course looks it's best and you don't have to play off mats.
Also you'd better reserve at least 4.5 hours plus if playing at peak times.
Aaron Wait (england) 07/11/02
The golf course itself is a very intresting one. Lots of hazzards to negociate. Most of the greens are of a high standard. A bit more work on the fairways wouldn't go a miss. But other than that, a nice golf course.
Pro shop is very small, thus coice of equipment is very limited.
Driving range could do with removing all the old balls (too many bald balls in a basket)

I have been a member for the last five years, I love playing the course, it IS well looked after and although the greens do suffer during the late Autumn and winter they are normally every well looked after. The course on the whole is very well cared for and I love playing it. The rough has been cut back. I cannot think of a more friendly place to play. There are spome very challenging holes.

I have played several times at BM during the eight or so years that it's been open, and I'm afraid to say that it seems to be going downhill. Initially, golfers seemed to be the priority; now the club appears to concentrate more on its Corporate entertainment/conference and leisure activities. One small example of this is that the Pro Shop used to extend upstairs and carried an extensive range of products - this area is now an office....
The course looked good on arrival, and the tees and fairways were in good nick, however the greens were poor. Undoubtedly some of this is due to the bad weather we've had this year, however a roller would have been a good idea - the greens didn't look like they'd seen one all year.
I couldn't get over the impression that the course was there to provide a twee backdrop to the main event - the large conference going on inside.
I hope this is not deemed inappropriate - I think it's important that golfers should be aware if they're not top of the agenda at some of the newer 'leisure' courses.
