Lindfield Golf Course Player Reports

I'll start by saying that they are in the process of changing the name of this club to 'Lindfield Golf Club'. I thought this might be because Pachill had a poor reputation. It probably is the reason.
In summary this course is unloved. I'll start with the bad points:
1. VERY tight fairways.
2. VERY Long rough - combined with No.1 this course punishes even the smallest mistake with a lost ball. I lost at least 3 balls where it rolled off the fairway into the stupidly thick rough.
3. Greens are very poor - more sand on the green than the bunkers. they are also inconsistant - fast at one point of the green then slow at another point. All greens need new turf.
4. Not a lot of imagination in the layout of the course.
Overall I was not impressed. If you choose to ignore my advice (as I ignored the previous reviews!) then please play on a monday or wednesday afternoon, where greenfees are 2-4-1 so only £9 (£15 too much in my opinion!).

First off, the green fee for a non-member weekday when we visited (09/08/05) as £20 not £15 as per the website. They take 2for1 vouchers after midday.
The course is, as pointed out previously, fairly tightly put together with many holes straight and parallel to each other. Not many dog-legs here! If you play up and down without much deviation in your shots then you will tame the course fairly easily I think. If you don’t then the rough and outer edges of the holes can be quite unforgiving. It is easy to underestimate the course, and it is surprisingly challenging in places.
I think the course is fairly new (opened 1990?) and has not matured completely yet, when the ‘crampt-ness’ will hopefully become less obvious. It is in a beautiful setting and some of the views down the par 5’s are quite sumptuous. The back 9 is more picturesque than the front 9.
Clubhouse good, pro shop quite sparse but they do make custom made sets of clubs on site, which is a selling point.
All in all, for £20 a round not sure this is the best course going but for a tenner you can’t complain at all. Very nice.

What a waste of farmland!!
18 holes crammed into the space of 9!
With the exception of 12, 13 & 14 utterly boring.
Good clubhouse & food though!
Gaz
Ps Bring your crash helmet just in case.
