Extremely impressed with this course ! Some very well designed challenging holes. I can only recall a couple which were straight forward. Some well guarded greens requiring accurate approach shots. Scored pretty high, but i think this could be improved on with a second round having gained some course knowledge, as there are many holes where placment of tee shots is crucial to achieving par, due to dog legs, hidden undulations etc. The greens and fairways were in immaculate condition. My only critisism is that the bunkers were a bit solid.

Good value at £25 a round.

Will definitely visit again when in the area.

We played Colne Valley on 1st October.

Despite the fact that it had been reasonably dry for a good while the course appeared to be quite wet in places. This not only meant that there was little run on the ball, but made you wonder what it would be like if you played in the winter!

Otherwise it was a good set-up with some very intersting holes. There are 6 par threes which range from 145 to 210 yards. It is undulating enough to be of interest throughout.

The welcome and care of the staff was very good as was the clubhouse itself.

I would recommend this course to anyone although perhaps in winter it may have its problems.

I visited here at the start of October 2005 and had an enjoyable days golf. Although the fairways are generous, there are many well placed hazards. The course is undulating, often with sloping fairways. The greens were receptive, whilst remaining fast and true. We were surprised that some of fairways felt soggy as it hadn't rained that much prior to us playing. There are plenty of yardage markers embedded in the fairways, although there was no formal confirmation of what yardages they represented. The couse would also benefit from a few more "next tee this way" signs.

The driving range is actually two nets, which meant that although you could warm up you got no real feedback on your swing. The staff were helpful both before and on the day. Unfortunately when we finished our round (mid afternoon) we were told the kitchen was shut, however the staff quickly retrieved the situation.

Well worth a visit.

This is a course which punishes anyone who doesn't concentrate on direction, length and club selection. Playing off the white tees in a Summer competion, I was often caught out...trapped in bunkers...straying off line...lost in water. But the condition of the course was good and the greens were true. The clubhouse is a modern, dominating building which overlooks the 9th and 18th greens..so take extra care with your putting. Try it...but be prepared for the course to find you out!

We probably cought this course at the wrong time - Easter with no rain for weeks! As a result, the fairways were in poor condition (almost bald in places). Also, there was only a thin layer of sand in the bunkers (I know that you shouldn't go there but I do!).

Enough of the negatives. Colne Valley is a well designed course with well placed bunkers and a reasonable amount of water, without the latter being too intimidating. The fairways are quite wide and the rough wasn't particularly daunting - ideal for the non-masochistic golfer who doesn't want to be punished too severely every time he/she mishits.

The course is quite hilly but very enjoyable nevertheless. It seemed a bit expensive but this was probably due to the condition of the fairways. Given some rain, or suitable attention by the greenkeepers, I'm sure that it would be good value.
