Dartmouth Golf and Country Club Player Reports

Any committed golfer with a reasonable handicap will have fun here but fitness levels have to be high unless you travel by buggy so be prepared. We played Dartmouth in the height of summer and over the three rounds we never saw the sun – rain during the first round, cloudy but breezy and dry on the second and continual rain on the third. Scores were naturally affected at the end but very true greens were helpful through-out.

A few pointers - while you would be aware that the course is long note that the back nine has only one par 3 (18th), also get used to long puts – most of the greens are massive and will need some work while the bunkers are relatively harmless – hard and compact..

What of the golf ? Unless your competent leave the big driver in the bag for the par 5’s (4th hole excepted) and on the par 4’s concentrate on position on the fairway – utility/4iron followed up by 7/8 irons to the greens. The second shot on the 15th proved my nemesis all week while I loved the finish to the 18th. The scariest was the short 5th – high up on the tee accentuated all the water around while reaching anywhere near the green was always a challenge on the 7th. I enjoyed the wind behind me on the long 16th although that was reversed on the last round

The course was busy but the views compensated for any delays. Course rangers were a pleasure with their stories (and tips and encouragement’s) and one could only be impressed by the condition of both the course and site – particularly the practice greens.

We had a good mid-week deal at the venue – high standard food and room (with an excellent bed) and full use of the leisure facilities make the whole package really worthwhile. We will be back !

Spectacular, picturesque, magnificent. All are true of Dartmouth G & CC yet none adequately do it justice. This is an excellent course in an excellent location which has been carefully thought out and is maintained to a very high standard. They also accept 2fore1 vouchers (after 2pm daily) which adds brilliant value for money.

We found the fairways and greens to be consistent and true and the markers on each tee providing a map of the hole and Pro’s Tip make life a lot easier for the first time visitor.

A final word of warning though – especially if you happen to be playing on a warm day – there are some pretty severe undulations on and between holes so a buggy is definitely worth consideration.

Spectacular, picturesque, magnificent. Stop wasting time reading this review & get down there.

Only the second time ive played Dartmouth and im sure i will keep coming back. For me the course gets going at the 3rd hole. Just standing there on the tee looking at the hole makes you glad you took up golf in the first place. Then the very next hole makes you think why why oh why did you ever take up the game.A very tight par 5 with O.O.B on the right and left.Come away with a bogey and your happy. It's a gem of a course with a great finishing run and one of the best par three 18th's i think in Devon. The staff in the pro shop are very friendly and helpful and the only let down of the day was our food wasn't that great.

Played here in March 2008 on a three day package. The course generally was in superb condition although the greens were a little inconsistent with variable pace around the course.

Accommodation was comfortable if unspectacular and the food was fine. Full use of the leisure facilities, pool, sauna, gym etc make this an excellent value break and the staff were all very friendly and helpful, but the highlight is the golf course with some outstanding holes.

The 4th is a tough par 5 with a tight fairway bordered by a stream on one side and a rock face on the other.

You could play this course every day and never get bored. Go if you can.

Played on 19th September 2007 as part of a society. Fantastic track with every hole a unique challenge and the 3rd, 4th and 18th holes worth the green fee alone. Must be an absolute brute off the Golds. Excellent greens. Clubhouse facilities were fine but the catering was very average.
