Newbury Golf Centre Player Reports

Newbury Racecourse is a very open course, the first 12 holes being actually within the race track itself. Although the fairways were a bit bare in places, the greens and bunkers were in good condition. It is a fairly featureless course, with adjoining fairways often providing welcome relief for wayward drives !
It is a relatively long course, but there isn't too much to fear. Water comes into play on a few holes and even a basic hole guide on the scorecard would be welcome !
I didn't use any of the other facilities, but there is a driving range, putting green and practise bunker with chipping green.
With a 2-fore-1 voucher, it comes out at £12-50 plus £1 compulsory insurance for a Sunday round (and we got round in bang on 4 hours) so it is competitively-priced. I would play again but not necessarily in a hurry.

I have now played the course consistantly for several months now and the club have sorted out any previous issues i may of had with the course. The course is now very enjoyable to play and i have no major gripes. Also the course is gaining in popularity. On a final note i would like to say that the pro shop staff are allways very willing to help and are allways polite. Well done.

i used to play this course quite a lot but hadnt been for a while. i played it last week and little has changed but i like its flatness with the odd bit of water, its a nice relaxing place to play. the greens are in good condition and although its incredibly hot at the moment even the fairways and tees were in good order. my only gripe is that the clubs own website says that it is £16.50 for 18 holes when in fact it is £19, this includes £1 compulsory insurance. i have emailed them about this but no one has bothered to reply.

Newbury Racecourse is unusual in a number of ways, least not the way you enter the course down a narrow corridor leading past the pro shop and what feels like through the clubhouse. Once inside all is forgiven as this is a good,if slightly boring course. It is well maintained, the greens are in good condition (even in frosty November)as are the tees (no sign of winter tees here yet!)
As said previously there are precious few trees or bushes although there are some interesting water hazzards and humps, bumps etc to keep you on your toes. Not an 'easy' course by any means. The one thing lacking for visitors is knowing where you are going. There is no course plan on the card and no signs on tees - very disappointing (and cost me a stroke or two) and needed cost a penny with sponsorship. This level of imformation is 'almost' expected these days.
Overall a course worth seeking out and playing but possibly not one you'd return to too often once you had tamed it.

Possibly the flatest course I have ever played, with few contours etc to trouble the golfer. The greens weren't in bad nick and themselves did have some subtle and quite tricky undulations. Not the toughest challege and don't get catch short! There are no trees (to speak of) to hide behind and you are over-looked by the huge grand stand!!
