Possibly one of the best layouts of a golf course that i have seen for a while, winding through mature trees it reminded me in places of ashridge and woburn. Holes 10-14 go out into a field and are a bit open but great finish.
Greens were poor with no real consistent role to them and covered in moss. With some investment and work put into this course it could quite easily be one of the best in the area just a shame it seems to be run solely as a business where making money is number one on the agenda.
Bar prices were far to high and whole place just didnt feel like a golf club.

Whilst the £15 green fee might seem a bargain, especially at a weekend, the course itself was a major disappointment.
The layout is excellent and the yardage, at nearly 6600 yards off the yellow tees, is a true test. However, the state of the course at present is truly deplorable. The tees are reminiscent of minefields, with unfilled divot holes abounding. The greens are appalling, and are almost black in colour and as slow as putting in treacle.
Off course, the clubhouse needs some refurbishment, even though I suspect it is only 10-15 years old. Certainly, the price of drink needs some attention given that Asahi is £4 per pint.
All in all, a course that could be very good indeed with a little TLC.

Played Lamerwood for the first time a couple of days ago with my society and was very impressed. I was a little worried following the comments here but have to say I could hardly find fault with the course.
The layout is excellent, the greens were in really good nick, and the fairways were in top condition.
The greens were very interesting - the pin positions were impossible (I assume we played just/before after a competition) which left you some very very tricky putts! A couple of times I wasnt too disappointed to walk away with 3 putts!
Only possible downside is the clubhouse bar was closed as they were understaffed on the day, but other than that was an excellent and testing round of golf.

I've played Lamarwood as a visitor twice in the past fortnight and sympathise with the previous reporter's comments but overall disagree.
I've played mid-week and payed £25.00 and on a Sunday afternoon and payed £35.00. I assume £50.00 was for a weekend morning when I would guess the fees are designed to deter visitors in preference to the members. Both my rounds took about 4 hours for three-balls.
The actual layout is fabulous with beautiful tree-lined fairways on all holes bar the first section of the back-nine. Lots of dog-legs, undulations and good bunkering makes for a tricky challenge.
A couple of fairways were a bit patchy but on the whole I found them to be in reasonable condition. However, the greens aren't great. With the recent weather they're starting to become very hard and quite uneven. I don't want to exagerate but I would guess that the 7th and 8th greens are becoming virtually unplayable as you will struggle to land your ball on the green and get it to stop.
Despite the greens I think the course is pretty good, definitely one of my favourites in the Herts/Essex/North London area and I will be returning.

A real shame.
Fantastic course layout spoiled by an ovious lack of investment in course maintenance.
£50.00 for a 5+ hour round (no course marshall to be seen), the worst greens I have ever played (bumpy, covered in moss with at least 5 different types of grass) and fairways difficult to distinguish from rough.
Clubhouse prices are too high, £4.20 for a pint of lager and £8.90 for a greasy cheeseburger. The changing rooms are dirty and smell like a public toilet.
Be warned...!
The sad fact is, with a little care and attention (and reduced prices) this could be one of the best courses the area.

Superb course, excellent value for money - joined without even playing it - just got to drive up and see the place.
Best course around considering the fees. The Augusta of Hertfordshire :)
