Hartford Golf Course Player Reports
Paul Checkley (England) 22/02/06
Cold February day, and three of us play Hartford for the first time. Winter golf, yet the course was in excellent condition, new paths obviously being a recent addition.
Only nine holes, but such is the variety that they are a joy to play twice. First hole is a sweeping gem rising to a small tricky green. Third hole is very tricky as you can easily be pulled left - par 5 but play 'stepping stone' golf!
We loved the short, but most pleasant 4/5/6 loop. The par 3 is lovely, placed at the end of large pond.
The seventh - got to be one of the most beautiful holes we've played, swooping down off a high tee to a long green 190 yds away - and I par'd it both times!
We particularly enjoyed the ninth - stay out left to open dogleg, and watch out for two 'hidden' ponds.
Don't let the length fool you. Straight hitting and an accurate short game is needed.
Very pleasant, friendly clubhouse for lunch afterwards. A very enjoyable day, and we'll certainly be back.

I play hartford regularly as it is better than my local club which allows no room for rain. As it his upon hills the drainage is fabtastic and the course is playable in almost any conditions. The 1st hole sets the standards with a narrowing fairway which is extremely difficult to keep to as there is minor tree coverage on the dogleg. The 3rd hole, as mentioned is a complete stinker with a narrowing fairway and huge drop down hill on left. the 7th is quiet simly 1 of the best holes i have ever seen!!! MAKE IT 18HOLES TIM

Very good new 9 hole parklands course. Not too long but tight enough to make things difficult. Water comes into play on several holes. The par 5 3rd hole and the par 3 7th hole are both particularly challenging. The clubhouse is almost complete and should be ready by the end of the 2004.

Situated in mature parkland, this 9-hole course is well kept, challenging and varied. With just enough water around to tease and draw your ball you will find it hard not to drop a shot if you leave the comfort of the fairway or green.
This course is NOT a test of how far you can hit the ball, but a good test of thinking your way around the course. The 3rd hole is a prime example, as it a par 5 you’ll want to take your driver but the fairway gets very narrow it requires a very accurate shot. Same with the 4th, placement on the fairway is ideal. The best hole on the course is the very beautiful 7th, shortish Par 3 over a little water and trees either side down to the target.
When the clubhouse gets finished I think it will get very popular, just a shame it’s only 9 holes.
