Ingon Manor Hotel Golf and Country Club Player Reports
Mark Woodward (Scotland) 19/02/08
11 of us just spent a frosty February weekend playing the parkland course. The course was set up with winter tee boxes but playing on full USPGA greens despite the frosty conditions. The choice of venue was based mainly on other players reports rather than the club's website which doesn't do the course or hotel justice.
The course provided a fair test of golf and had a sufficient variety of holes, with well presented and reasonably generous fairways but well placed hazards for the longer hitters. The last two holes have the potential to be card wreckers - especially off the white tees. There were plenty of changes in elevation which added to both the golfing and visual quality of the course but mean that for older golfers a trolley is advisable.
The only negative regarding the course was that on a couple of holes the use of very small raised winter tee mats which were so narrow meant that a stance with a driver was difficult.
The clubhouse facilities and the course were in the main excellent and provided a good challenge for the wide range of handicaps and standards.
All the lower handicap players commented on how much they would like to come bacck and play the course during the summer months.
The hotel facilities and staff were pleasant - the only downside was the inadequate heating in the common areas of the hotel (e.g. bar, lounge and restaurant) and the limited food availability on Saturday and the fact that food wasn't served until after 3pm on the Sunday.

Played the course many times, it can be a tough challenge on a blustery day (particularly off the white tees). Challenges include the 3rd, a long, long par 4 up the hill which is unreachable for most, the 4th is short but a killer green to stop the ball on, the 17th a monstrous par 3 over water where any wind is usually in your face - you might need a driver off the white tee! One or two slightly unfair bunkers if you don't know the course (i.e. hidden just at the back of greens, where even reasonable bunkers shots risk running off a quick green sloping away from you). Reasonably hilly, good variety of holes, driving range very basic, clubhouse okay, overall worth a visit.

I have played here twice in recent weeks and have found the course to be in excellent condition.
This is a challenging course, but the open fairways are quite forgiving of the high-handicapper. The 17th is a great signature hole over water - not quite Sawgrass, but it's fun nonetheless!
Having played on weekend mornings on both occasions I have found the course to be fairly quiet, making the round very relaxed.
With 2 fore 1, this is a bargain.

Played here last friday morning.
The course has quite an easy start to the round, getting progressively harder as the round progresses.
The 6th hole is beautiful to play and to look at.
And the 17th is a joy to play if you hit it right!!
All in all a good day to be had, and for the less fit of you maybe a buggy should be considered, alot of hills!!

An enjoyable test of golf. A decent mix of Pars and some testing short holes. Greens are in excellent condition and the course was well maintained. Lots of staked trees suggests it needs a few years yet to be really desirable, but nevertheless well worth it if you're able to use a 2fore1 voucher.
