havent played here for about a year and was shocked at the condition of the course the ground staff must have been on strike ive really enjoyed playing here over the years but would not play here again i have never played a course where mushrooms are growing on fairways

i play this course about 3 times a year. i played there on the 22/8/2007 and it was the best it has looked for years! the tees & greens were green and not a greeny/yellow, the greens are alot quicker than before and not trying to putt through snow! i was talking to some of the members and they say its been like it for a while now so hopefully it will not go back to what it was!!! fairways still patchy in places but this course is still very young! a massive improvement since i last played back in april. ive read the last reports on this course and when they were written, i would have agreed by what was said! but now its a different class!

Played the course today and thought £22 was expensive for midweek. The wind made the course quite a challange. I was very dissapointed with the lack of grass on the fairways and the greens need working on as well.On a positive the layout of the course is pretty good.

Played yesterday and would urge you to spend the green fee on a course maintenance book and hand it in to the club house. Greens were dressed with what I can only describe as driveway gravel, fairways were a mix of patchy cheap grass & mud. I dont mind public courses with natural wear but this was as if a fairgound had been at the site.
Unable to putt, and fairways were unfair a local park would be more satisfying.

southern valley is a good winter course as it has good drainage but in the hot weather the course is very dry and HARD the course is a challenge but the course needs some attention large weeds in fairways and greens have some pitch marks which quite bad
its good course but the green fees are abit to much for my liking there are better pay and play courses which are CHEAPER

Played on a Saturday in July 2005 and the round took 6 hours! Had to wait at each tee for the group in front to move slowly down the fairway, while they were waiting for the green ahead to clear. The fairways were "rock hard". On the whole I enjoyed the course and will play there after the summer season.

A reasonable time was had. Quite forgiving. Don't think it is worth the full price, but four of used 2-4-1 vouchers, so you can't complain at a tenner a head.

I should put the record straight. We've been back & played a further 5 times, during which time there HAS been another 5-hour round. However, generally the rounds have taken an acceptable amount of time. There have, bizarrely, even been a couple of sub 4-hour rounds. Don't ask me why it varies so much, I have no idea! Anyhow, this course copes very well with winter and it's worth a visit for that reason alone. The facilities a bit ropey but the course is enjoyable.

A nice course, in very good condition for the time of year. However, I strongly recommend that you do NOT play this course at the weekend as there appears to be no limit on the number of players they will try to squeeze on. We have played it on consecutive Saturdays (15th & 22nd Feb 2003), the first teeing off at 8:40, the second at noon. On both occassions, there was a long queue on the first tee and the round took 5 hours. Heaven only knows how long it takes in the summer! I doubt we'll be back and that's a shame.

I have received lessons from club pro Larry Batchelor. Excellent value for money by a top class teacher. Drastically improved my game! Highly recommended.
Ian Brown (UK) 22/04/02
Played the course on a sunny Sunday in Mid-April. The round took 5 hours so I would heavily recommend playing as a 4-ball. The food booking service on the 9th tee was very useful and we all thought the course layout was very good with several excellant holes and a good linksy feel to it. The 14th and 15th were very good and the 8th and 11th weren't far behind in our opinion. The greens were not the best in the world but it was Mid-April. Overall very good value for £19.
Dave Cornwell (England) 09/04/02
A good course to play in the winter as it drains very well, lying on a chalky/sand base. Although a new course the layout is not as open as it first appears with the artificial humps splitting fairways and good use of undulating natural valleys. Few trees or water but large well placed bunkers. Greens were all in use and good for time of year. (Feb). Clubhouse a bit bland but useful facility to order bacon sandwich on 9th tee for collection at 10th!
Overall good value and much better than first impression on arrival.
Dave
