Marriott Hollins Hall Hotel and Country Club Player Reports

Had a 3 day golf holiday with 23 others at the end of May. I have to say that I fell in love with the course, not the most difficult but some superb holes and the greens were excellent, apart from the 10th which was diseased but still putted true. The greens were rock hard but a well struck shot stopped instantly.

Two gripes one was that they ran out of beer one night, not what you would expect from a big hotel chain. Second gripe would be the golf buggy's which we had everyday, they had sat nav in them but hardly any worked although you got a free stroke saver if it didn't.

Hope to go back next year, really enjoyed it.

played here this weekend on a pay and stay package. The club house/hotel and staff we are really good. The course its self was fine and a real challenge but the greens were in a terrible state, bobbly and black. There were quite a few sand bunkers full of water. The drainage of the course is not that good. Also played it twice and both times got stuck behind slow, rude and arrogant members who realy made it hard to enjoy the full character of the course. bacon sandwich at the hut from behind 8th the tee a delight. Always get a lift to the 1st tee its a steep hill.

Went on a golf package, and staff were very accomodating & friendly on both days we played. We declined the offer of a lift to the first tee (Big Mistake!). Course is a fair challenge but like any other keep it straight and you'll do ok, although the greens are very tricky and 3 putts were for me, too frequent . Stunning views and great value for money with the package I took.

Lovely hotel in a very scenic setting, sadly the course isn't quite as good though. We found the tees to be in pretty poor condition, the greens a bit slow and bobbly and the food in the hotel was expensive for what it was.

Normally these are the sort of courses for societies and corporate golf, but with lots of long walks from greens to tees and a course in fairly average condition, you will get better value elsewhere.

If you enjoy nice hotels and spa break packages with a bit of golf included then fine, this is ideal for you. Not one for serious golfers though.

Take the offer of a buggy ride to the 1st tee from the pro shop. The 1st is reachable par 4 so an easy opener is on offer. The 1st nine is fairly easy scoring if your straight enough off the tee, the 9th is a great hole, the dog leg takes you down to the green, you must be stood 50m above the green taking your 2nd shot which makes club selection tricky. The course has some spectacular views and the back nine offers some great tests with long irons and up hill approaches. The greens are slick and true so putting is a treat. On the down side the dress code is not the best and some course ettiqutte leaves alot to the imagination. We paid £33 for 27 holes on a sat with 2-4-1 vouchers. They wanted £25 for a buggy so we gave that a miss. The halfway house was a welcome site and a bacon sarny was just the ticket. I enjoyed the course but won't be rushing back to cooperate for me.

Hollins Hall is a fantastic course when I played there in April the course was in great nick, the tees and greens were superb. There are some great views over west yorkshire, and the helpful friendly staff were great. We were given buggies for the course at £12 and allowed to take them down to the range for free. Another advantage was the 2-fore-1 vouchers which entitled me and 2 mates to play for £12 each, and to cap it off I shot the best round of my life.
