Welton Manor Golf Club Player Reports
Kevin Dole (England) 06/08/07
Really Poor. The rough is overcome with clover, therefore if the ball enters the rough there is 95% chance of the ball being lost. The plantation of trees was done without thought, in relation to type and amount. For example, if you enter any wooded area there’s a 50% chance of you not even being able to chip. The fairways and course are shapeless (who plants hedges along the full length of fairways?).

I would like to take Mr Dreyfuss( A.K.A. Andrew Sayer report 06/06/04) to task about his report on 27/04/07. I was indeed a member at Welton Manor Golf Club from 2000-2006 and enjoyed my time at the club. I am know a member at Market Rasen and District Golf Club.I left Welton to enhance my game at a widely regarded tougher course. I am unsure as to why you have felt the need to disguise your comments but i have always given an honest and constructive report of any course that i have reported on. I am unsure if you have played the course recently but my comments were in line with the members that i have spoken to. I am sure every course has disgruntled members however i am surprised that an individual with such a low opinion of the course has revisited it to confirm their previous opinion. I would suggest that you remove the chip from your shoulder and get over your fall out with the owners from 3 years ago. Mr Sayers i do remember you and in fact came runner up in a competition you sponsored (winter league)
I have never written anything to say Welton is a magnificent course but i do believe they should be given the chance to advance without the hostility that you have directed towards them. I will be playing the course in the next month and hope to write a favourable report but rest assured i will not let previous personal opinions cloud my judgement.
Tim Dreyfuss (England) 27/04/07
Interesting that James Gray claimed to be a member in September 2005 "I've been a member for 5 years", but in Feb 2007 says he has "spoken to members" and "looks forward to playing there". James is I believe a cover name for one of the owners.
To set the record straight, talking to both current and past members, the course is maintained to the minimum standard, is cheap to play, which reflects its condition and is in average condition. Most members that I have spoken to have issues with the club. A prime example is the entire ladies section resigning membership due to poor treatment and disappointing service.
The bar that adjoins the course serves a reasonable range of beer and food at normal pub prices, although quality can be variable.

I have recently spoken with many members and guests of Welton Manor Golf Club and have been impressed by their high regard for their course.
I have been informed that their greens are widely regarded as some of the best in thae area. I am a local resident of the area and regularly view the course from a distance and the setting is very impressive. I appreciate that the course is continually developing and while there may be areas on the course requiring further improvements, i am impressed by the efforts being made by all of the staff and management. I look forward to playing the course in the future and hope that my comments encourage guests to give Welton Manor a visit.

As a guest to welton golf course i found it not only a nice challenge but a very neat and tidy course. The fairways are quite forgiving. As for hole seven i found it to be one of the better holes to play.I will go back and play it again.

I have been a member at welton for the past 5 years and have enjoyed my golf there in that time. The previous feedback gives the impression that the course is overgrowing and difficult to play. I would like to set the record straight that the course is in fact in fairly good condition and that the areas of overgrown grasses are in fact parts of the course that rarely come into play. The comment about the 7th hole is only correct if you have hit a poor tee shot and the hole itself is one of the best on the course. I question if Mr Sayer really wants to challange his game or if he wants to play on a course so wide that the rough is never a contributing factor. The course is not the greatest but it has some good holes and will provide players of all standards a tidy little test.
