Stinchcombe Hill Golf Club Player Reports

This is a gem of a course which sits on top of a hill providing spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. It is a walkers course with undulating fairways. When I played in May 02 it was in very good shape despite a week of bad weather; the fairways were lush, rough was penal but not high enough to lose balls, bunkers were in very good shape and the greens were medium fast. The course is short but don’t let this stop you playing a round as many holes are very well designed and provide a tough test of golf. I was on a golfing holiday for 10 days in Gloucestershire from the US and played several high end courses only to find this the most memorable of my playing experiences. If I had played Stinchcombe Hill first rather than last I would have definitely come back for more.

As my home course I will appear biased but this really is a tough little golf course. Come and play in September to March and you'll be disappointed if you don't halve your handicap against the card but the rest of the year you'll do well to play to anywhere near your handicap, and when these greens are good they are among the best I have ever played on. The 5th and the 17th are among the best holes, short par 4's but par is a great score.

What a nice course, reasonably short but a good test of golf for all standards the greens are the best I have played on all year and very nice scenery looking out onto the severn estuary
