Played the course at the weekend, looks quite easy on paper but play it yourself and you will be shocked, a fantastic challenge of golf and as for the comments about how muddy the course is, well what can i say, Ive played a hell of a lot worse, in fact after the amount of snow and rain we've had recently i was extremeley impressed with how the course has held up. Ok its a bit muddy in the rough and the pathways to the next tee after some holes but its dry enough where it matters, on the fairways and greens. So keep it down the middle and you will fine in the winter months and even if you don t keep it down the middle its not as bad as previous comments made by people. And as for the comments about not having to use the big gun as well, i would like to know who made these comments because i m not the shortest off the tee in the world and even off the winter tees it came out of my bag on a several occasions. After playing the course at the weekend i am seriously considering joining the club and looking forward to playing it over the summer months, the views are fantastic and the staff are extremely friendly.

This course has a real Jekyll and Hyde character. In the summer, it’s a ‘fairweather’ golfer’s dream – benefiting thoughtful, rather than powerful golf. It’s quite short (4,577 yds with 7 par 3’s), great for a quick 3 hour round late on a Sunday afternoon. There’s not much opportunity to use the big guns, but loads of opportunities to score well if you keep it straight. Like I said, when it’s sunny, it’s great. However, in the winter it’s not a pleasant place to be. The winter tee boxes are set up on platforms amidst a sea of mud and the pathways between holes are no better – you really do have to see it to believe it! They’ve tried hard over the years to improve the course condition and it’s paid dividends on the fairways and greens but until the teeing grounds and pathways are improved, I wouldn’t recommend playing this course until the sun shines. The clubhouse is good and the food and drink worth sticking around for.

I have just played Standish for the first time. 06/12/05. It was a little damp but they provide suitable trolleys for free. It was playable even after a lot of rain. It must be a very good summer venue. I didnt find it over challenging but a good short course for beginners and medium handicap golfers. It helps you find your range instead of relying on big hits all the time. Enjoyed it, staff friendly and super value. Will be back soon.

I have played the course regularly and it's in as a good condition as I've ever seen it. The fairways are great and the greens are playing extremely well at the moment. Although it is a short course it has a high difficulty rating and is NOT a pushover for the big hitters by any means. Accuracy and good "course management" are the order of the day.
The food and drink in the clubhouse are A1 and the staff are friendly and helpful. I agree with it not being a winter course but in summer it's a real gem.
