Carswell Golf and Country Club Player Reports
Ian Thomas (England) 22/10/07
A well maintained course, with quite forgiving fairways and consistent, averagely paced, greens. Some nice touches like the odd pot bunker and water feature. Still being enhanced. with large areas of plantations at sapling height adjacent to some of the fairways. A good mix of par 5s, par 4s and par 3s; if anything most of the par 4s are a touch short and all the par 3s are of a similar length (off the yellow tees). The venue provides a very pleasant round of golf, with the opportunity to hit a good score, but don't expect anything too challenging.

Played with an ex-member, so well-guided round! He noticed a number of improvements since he'd last played, and commented on the good condition of both greens and fairways - I thought both were excellent, in spite of being built on very sandy soil. Water features were dry (September), but this didn't spoil a thoroughly entertaining round. Good variety of holes, plus attractive facilities - not too busy either, so all in all highly recommended!
Brian Drane (England) 07/07/04
Played on a weekday evening, nice friendly club - good setting, with very good practice facilities.
The course is quite interesting, seemed a bit dry on the fairways, although the greens were well watered. Good variety of hole lengths. The par 5, 4th is a very nice hole. As is the par 3, 7th.
Only £9 each using 2-fore-1, absolute bargain! Recommended.
Colin Young (England) 02/05/03
Played the course for the 1st time in a Hillman trophy match against their current Club Champion, the perfect guide to play the course. The facilities including the driving range, putting greens, chipping areas were excellent and probably put a few more prestigious clubs to shame. The clubhouse area is stunning to look at, also very clean and welcoming, 1st class complex.
The course was in very good condition, I was warned about "dodgy greens" however although a wee bit slow they stopped the ball fairly quickly and they were mostly pretty true. On the fairways the lies were a bit tight, however the semi was nicely shaped so that they were all cosmetically pleasing to look at.
For me the signature hole was the Par 3 7th, about 160yds, large trees surrounding the raised green, slightly blind as the hole is uphill from the tee. It all looked very Augusta. Some longish par 4's some short, all good par 3's with a few challenging par 5's thrown in.
Excellent company all the way round, very good golfer and a good bunch of guys made us feel very welcome. I will be back, unfotunately this time I will have to pay.
Colin Young. Handicap 6.
Chris Payne (England) 05/04/02
A good friendly club and course. It gives the appearance of being easy but this is a false sense of security. The 7th and 8th are good examples of this and the oput of bounds field at the 8th has far to many balls in it. Food good and good changing facilities. The course was in good condition when I last played it in March 2002 although the fairways were due for a trim but I think that is just good husbandry to save them in the winter
Simon Holmes (England) 12/01/02
A fairly new parkland style course that will be perfect in a few years when the meticulous planting of new trees will pay dividends. Forgiving for the high handicapper with an open layout, though still challenging with some long holes. Greens in excellent condition. Clubhouse facilities are excellent, staff and members friendly. Recommended.
