This is one of those courses that you can safely guarantee you won't have come across anything else like it in your golfing career. The nearest thing I can compare it to is a hybrid of Painswick and Cleeve Hill in Gloucestershire. It's like a cross between golf and a mountain hike.
The first hole sets the tone – an extraordinary par 3 of 181 yds that plays more like 220 with the green perched 20 yards up on a hill. The second is a virtually blind par 3 – and you can't see a whole lot of the 3rd either (another par 3).
The fourth is a good strong par 4 with an exciting second over a valley where anything short is dead; and I really liked the par 4 6th (Novers), which has a semi-blind drive and then a blind approach to a green located down in a hollow.
The next few holes zigzag their way up the hill. Up on the top after the turn things become a bit more open and then you can make up ground on the 15th and 16th both of which are driveable (depending on the wind of course!)
As others have said the views are stunning pretty much all the way round.
Avoid like the plague if all you like is manicured parkland target golf (yawn).
Recommended for being totally unique.

Played twice in July 06. Pro very welcoming and green fees excellent vfm on 2F1. The opening 3 holes, all par 3's, demand short but accurate shots. Stiff climb on all 3 which take you up and up onto 4th tee which from there you play across the tops of the Long Mynd. Tough course when the wind gets up, but extremely enjoyable nonetheless. Facilities are more than adequate and food & bar prices very reasonable. An experience not to be missed if in the area.

This very hilly course is reputed to be the highest in England so be prepared for some windy conditions. There are a number of blind shots either from tee or fairway with some holes falling away to deep heather filled gorse. Very picturesque countryside with superb views and sheep roaming the edge of the fairways ! General condition of the course greens etc, was good for early season and
the professional and staff are very friendly.
In the opinion of our society this venue is a golfing experience not to be missed.

I have to say that for the £17 we paid today this has to be one of the most stuning courses I have ever played. The views on some of the holes are breath taking and that's not just because of the hills you have to climb. The members and professional James where most welcoming and gave some sound advice before and during our round. The best holes for me were Par 3 3rd Valley, Par 4 13th Reservoir and Par 4 17th Stanyeld but all are very good. it may not be one of the longest courses you will play but when the wind blows that will test even the low handicapper's. If your in the area play it you will not regret it

Really enjoyed playing this course on a hot, sunny day in July. Although short, it's very tricky as many of the flags are hidden from the tee due to the hilly nature of the course. It starts with a 180 yard uphill par 3 which looks ominous from the tee, but worse when you reach the green as you realise anything right is dead in rough which goes down the slope. Two more tricky par 3's later and you reach a Par 4 which dog legs across a deep ravine, making the 2nd shot pretty hairy. It's a course that's tough on the legs, but well worth it for the views - it was also pretty quiet when we played, and great value with a 2 for 1 voucher.

Playing at Church Stretton Golf Club is guaranteed to be a
wonderful day out for all standards of golfer. The course is in superb condition all year round and boasts one of the best drainage systems in Britain.
The views at Church Stretton are spectacular, where ever you are on the course you can see for miles in any direction. The view from the seventeenth green is quite spectacular.
Despite this being the shortest course, by far, I have ever played, it is no doubt one of the trickiest, as it is just so different to the majority of courses, even those which are within a few miles of it.
For me, this is the reason why I love to return to Stretton time
and again.
