Hazel Grove Golf Club Player Reports
Pete Boyce (England) 02/05/07
This will be my third year as a member @ Hazel Grove GC. The majority of fairways are quite narrow and tree-lined, therefore any wayward drive / long iron will find trouble. A brook runs thru’ the course which affects Holes 1, 3, 17 & 18 which can make or break a round, early and/or late on. Other natural water hazards are also dotted around the course. All the Par 3’s are well bunkered and therefore requires crisp and accurate irons off the ‘T’. The only recent gripe amongst members recently, were the condition of some of the bunkers over winter period, which have now had work done to them. All 18 holes have USGA specification greens and excellent drainage makes play possible for 52 weeks of the year without a temporary green in sight (and that is no lie). The majority of the greens are far from flat and three putts are common especially in the summer months when the greens become extremely fast. The groundstaff are always busy ensuring that the course is always in the best condition, with all fairways and ‘T’ boxes well defined and greens in superb condition all year round. The Clubhouse facilities are great, with a good choice of snacks and bar prices at reasonable prices and soon to be re-furbished. All in all a great course and a challenging test of Golf. Without doubt, well worth a visit.

I've been a member of Hazel Grove for about a year and a half now. The greens are very challenging. All year round they are in perfect condition. The fairways are very narrow with tree lined fairways. Normally out of bounds or a forest on either side. But don't let that put you off. It's not the longest of courses and some tee shots even if you hit it off the fairway you should be ok. The best hole is the third. 500 yard par 5, it's a 160 yard carry to get over the ditch which has trees on the left and right so its essential you hit it straight and long. But you can also lay up with your drive with a short iron r wedge.
