Played here December 07 (£25 using a county card).

High calibre parkland course.

Tucked away in the middle of nowhere & with a Herbert Fowler design. With Fowler, you know you're going to get quality design touches (i.e Woodcote Park) & this is the case here .Allied to a nice setting his input here(hollows ,mounds ,bunkering) adds interest visually & strategically to the holes.

I'd put it just underneath very top bracket courses such as Hindhead & Tandridge .

The overall feel is of tranquility in a very pleasant setting. There is a good variety of holes with quite a lot of elevated tee shots with the hole set out in front of you. Also ,there are quite a lot of gradual incline/declines & there's an untimely steep climb at the end of the round up the 17th (the only hole i disliked).

If i was being ultra critical i would say the course tails off a fraction towards the end & it could do with another short par 3 near the end as it finishes with five par 4's & a par 5 .

Course condition was good ,with superb fairways.Greens were good although i found them tricky to read.

Although it's well wooded i used my driver on every hole which is what you want.Pro shop was welcoming & elsewhere friendly too.

Strangely, this was one of those courses that was enjoyable to play & that i'd have no hesitation in recommending but for some reason that i find difficult to put my finger on (maybe it was partly the number of incline/declines)it didn't leave me particularly wanting to play it again.

Anony Mouse (England) 08/12/06

I played this course yesterday in the midst of some of the wettest weather seen in the region. The course was however in remarkable condition. The greens were not soggy at all, the fairways were trim and well-kept, and the tee boxes were also basically dry. As I said, remarkable given the weather.

This was my first outing on the course but as a course it was a little less challenging than I had imagined. There are few really tricky holes and the course on the whole is quite open and accomodating to some less than straight shots. I just happened to play badly! The bunker positions though are very well thought out but thankfully they are also well maintained. Most memorable holes are 17 and 18.

Would be very happy to play West Surrey again.

I played this course a while ago and found it a very enjoyable round. The best holes are on the front nine - after a gentle uphill opening, there are two tricky par threes played to Augusta-like back drops, three long par fours including a lovely downhill dogleg at the third and difficult uphill holes at the 4th and 7th, two scenically downhill par fives and a stunning short par four played across a huge valley. The consecutive par fours on the back nine are a weak point - they are short and flattish and only nastily placed bunkers define the holes. However two great closing holes, one played again over the massive valley, the other sweeping downhill towards the clubhouse, ensure a memorable end to an excellent round.

Although there is no heather, this is a great Surrey course and worth considering ahead of more renowned, heathland courses.

We played West Surrey on 18.Nov 2003. the weather was chilly and foggy in the morning but cleared up in the afternoon. There was no problem to get a 9 o'clock tee time on a Saturday and the practice area was great, grass range with real golf balls.

The course was in perfect condition, fairways were quite hard and gave some roll, but they were green because of the sprinkler system. All greens were very good and putted true. not extremely fast but but no holes or sand. A real treat!

The holes were beautifully laid out between the parkland trees, and even though the course was not very long, it was a good challenge. Accuracy with the tee shot was important. All bunkers were very well maintained and raked!

A nice feature was the Augusta-like wooden teemarkers and distances on every sprinkler head on the fairways.

Favourite holes would be the 8th and 17th which both have elevated tees, fairway is 30feet below and then the green sits another 40 feet above the fairway. Great!

The only downer was that they didn't have any deals or take any discount vouchers. But the pro let us play two rounds for £40.

I will definitely be back!
