Mount Oswald Manor and Golf Course Player Reports

As i high handicap golfer I try to play as many courses as I can to gain more experience of different types of play. I've played Mount oswald a couple of times and I like the layout of the course. My first experience was a lovely summers day...the course was challenging, without being out of reach.
The fairways were in good condition, especially for a council run course at this price, and the greens were challenging without being too frustrating.
However, when I played it a few weeks ago they were playing winter greens. The "Greens" were basically on the undulating parkland style fairways and it was like trying to put on a woodland floor. That aside, I still scored my best round on that day and would recommend this course, particularly in the summer, to anyone.

I played this course for the first time recently, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I've not been playing golf for as long as most of the guys who get down here have, but I found that this course had a range of abilities and gave me a good opportunity to develop my skills. It is also very well maintained which is great!

Having played here a couple of times in recent weeks due to the relatively low (£17.50) weekend green fees I'm beginning to see why they are relatively low, do they actually employ a greenskeeper? Currently a lot of GUR, badly mown fairways etc. That being said the first 8 holes are enjoyable thanks to the undulating parkland setting which can make for a tricky start. Unfortunately the back 9 is an up-and-down collection of holes with murderous strips of rough in-between due to tree plantations, as long as you miss these it's pretty much a procession of easy holes - but I am a fan of the par 5 15th. The clubhouse is decent. I'll be trying out other courses for the time being or until there's been a long period of dryer weather as there do seem to be drainage problems on the front 8 holes.

Absolutely wonderful course. It is laid back with a variation of abilities. Throughly enjoyed myself and loved the banter with the rest of the golfers. I didn't find it too difficult and will be back next year. Big up to 'The Showman' and well chaeted by 'The Dog'
