We visited here on 29th June, having travelled about 60 miles. Luckily the course was fairly quiet when we went out which gave us a bit more time to find our way around and to admire the very attractive setting. After the first few holes we met up with a solo golfer who was trying the course out so we went round together and thoroughly enjoyed our game.

This is a very pleasant and well-maintained course with a good mix of features, a couple of the shorter par 3s offer birdie opportunities with an accurate tee shot but there are also quite a few tricky dog-legs and some innocuous-looking light rough which was anything but! We especially enjoyed the 12th, a downhill par five with a hidden green at the base of the hill.

The greens were in very good condition and several had some unusual contours to test your putting skills.

The Clubhouse is friendly and has a nice choice of food on the menu, our lunches were on the table quickly - very tasty and good value too.

We would certainly play this course again and our playing companion enjoyed the round so much he will be taking up membership!

I have to agree with the author of the previous report. I played here at the end of June 2003 as part of a society day and was nothing but impressed. The course looked beautiful and the greens and fairways were excellent. I played the best round of golf I have ever played that day and I think I was inspired by the surroundings and the nature and condition of the course. Some of the back 9 holes were a little unforgiving and I did lose a ball or two in what seemed like open ground but really...what a fantastic course. The food in the clubhouse afterwards was excellent. To top it all off the whole day was very very reasonably priced. If I lived nearer I would join!

I played this course for the first time towards the end of March 2003 on a glorious sunny day. The welcome from the starter on the first tee was nothing short of favourable and it only got better from then on in. I play on a well established private members club that in comparison pales into insignificance. If you live locally or have the chance to play this course then you ought consider it a priviledge. Those that have left feedback before me must be very difficult to please. Of course there are holes that are more memorable than others but this a fantastic golf course that will test the abitity of all standards of golfers and all this in such a wonderful setting as the Orchardleigh Estate....Play there!

There are worse new courses around but I’m afraid this one still singularly failed to impress me.

It’s parkland layout within the mature Orchardleigh estate is dominated by an impressive number of large trees – as opposed to many new-builds with their characteristic fledgeling plantations - but even though it’s in reasonable condition, the course is generally too bland, open, immature and uninspiring.

That said, there are a couple of exceptions. The third and tenth are both good mid-length Par 3s and the latter is followed by probably the best hole on the course – a challenging dogleg Par 4. The back nine is more ‘up and down’ and the dogleg at 16 that teeters on the side of the hill will keep you on your toes.

Apart from that, there really is very little to get excited about.

Dare I say it, but it even has resonances of the now-deceased Thoulstone Park, just the other side of Frome. That scored 0/10, this scrapes

3.5/10

Played the course yesterday 22/02/02, could not fault the condition of the course or the welcome we received. The only problem being the pile of dog mess on the path between the club house and the first tee.
