I played the course again two Saturdays ago and it transpired that the course was full to bursting point. My partner and I teed off at 11am. As we passed a four ball on the 16th tee they warned us that they had had to wait on every single tee and fairway. We carried on hoping that this might have been caused by the early starters. Sadly this was not the case. Every tee from that point became a nice social gathering between us and one or more other groups waiting to tee off. By the time we had reached the 12th and there was a queue of 5 groups waiting to tee off we walked off the course. It had taken over three hours to play the 11 holes, with at least half an hour on the cards to get through the 12th. When I pointed this out to the staff back in the pro shop I was told "Well that is about right for a Saturday". Needless to say I will be thinking twice before returning.

I played this course as a 3 ball on Saturday 7th July. The new club house and pro shop are open and are very nice. A word of warning - they do not take payment for green fees by card - only cash so make sure you have stopped at a cash point before arriving! The course was in good condition overall, with the tees, fairways and greens all in good order. It's not the most difficult of courses, which makes it nice to play if you are struggling with you game, and at £21 for a round is pretty fair value.

Not impressed at all, didn't expect to be playing off mats in 2nd week of April, and mats were in bad condition also.Greens were very unpredictable as some were cut and others are quite long,i know it's a public course but should be better value for £17.40,watch out for the marshall on the buggy as he can be a real pain at times creeping up on you just as you are about to play a shot, only positive is that it's a good course for complete novices.

It is a challenging undulating course with wide fairways. Still recovering from a fire which burnt down the clubhouse, the temporary facilities with the exception of changing facilites are very good with a nice bar and TV room in what was the squash courts and a good range of food can be found in the cafetaria on the ground floor at reasonable prices. Although a public course it is very well maintained. There is ample parking for both the 9 hole and 18 hole course and the club also has a large driving range. There is a limited range of items on sale in the Reception/shop.

this course is great for 20-28 hcp's, its quite open and quite forgiven, can get quite busy at weekends and school holidays so would avoid at those time, the course is good value although can get a bit boring if played to regular - there is no bar now due to clubhouse being burnt down - there is a little cafeteria.

I played here on a weekday recently when I was unable to get a tee time at three other local courses.
I had not played here for many years and was not expecting much especially as a fire recently destroyed the club house and pro shop.
There are plans for an impressive new club house in the temporary bar situated in the squash courts. Don't expect too much in the way of facilities and you won't be dissapointed, be prepared to get changed in the car park or portacabin toilets.
The course was in pretty good nick, it obviously gets a lot of traffic, and although our two ball went round in just under four hours it felt longer as there was waits on most tees with a particular bottle neck at the par 3 twelth.
An enjoyable round with some excellent views into the city and great value for money at seventeen pounds.

dont go in the summer when its been hot and dry. you have no chance of keeping it on the fairway: rock hard! play earlier/later in the year and its pretty good for someone improving their game.

This course has wide fairways and large greens which means it is able to cope with the high level of traffic you expect at a municipal course. For a low or medium handicapper this is a confidence-building course where you can go on the attack - you should definitely hope to break 80!
Mark (Cosgrove) 31/05/02
I played this course on a Weekday and was very impressed. I am a high handicap golfer and found the course challenging without being intimadating. The greens were superb and the fairways well looked after. As a public course this is by far the best one I have played, although I have no idea how busy it gets at weekends. Shop and bar are also first class

Tremendous municipal course which although played on excessively is in excellent condition. Undulating fairways and interesting holes make this an enjoyable course for all levels of Golfers. Superb views of Central London on a good clear day. Pro shop well staffed with the staff being very friendly and helpful. Only downside is that the wait can be considerable if the course is busy with the first hole being a relatively short Par 3.

Pretty parkland course in the set in the grounds of the former home of Lord Derby. (Hence the Derby and the Oaks). Well maintained if somewhat overplayed.Teaching pro Mike Pilkington is one of the best in the business.
