Enjoyed a thoroughly entertaining and pleasant stay over the weekend of the 12th and 13th April. The staff were never anything less than friendly and welcoming, the food was good and the rooms clean and comfortable. The course offers a rewarding challenge. I'm aware that there have been mixed reviews regarding this site, but personally I found nothing to complain about. The current owners appear to be acting on any past criticisms, and I would happily recommend this venue.

I have just returned home after a 3 day golfing break at Bidford Grange.
After reading all the negative press this place was getting, i was a little worried to say the least.
However, it seems that the new owners are finally going in the right direction.
From the moment you pull off the main road you feel welcome here. The bar (which is excellantly run by Tim) is very good and offers everything you would expect, the rooms are basic but clean and welcoming.
As for the course, well what a first class challenge. Fairways are playing really well and the greens are in excellant condition.
Well done to the new owners and our booking for 2009 is a cert.

I stayed at Bidford Grange last week and having read postive and negatives about this resort I was sceptical. There was 4 of us and I can safely say that I would definetly return. The staff are very friendly and the hotel is very clean. The Golf Course was in great condition considering the rain that has fallen and was fair on all handicaps.
I would recommend Bidford Grange to anybody wanting a golf break on a budget and wanting nothing too formal.
Thanks Bidford

What a challenging course, Arrived Wed 20th June at 10:00am, we were a party of 12 booked into the hotel. Played 27 holes 1st day, 36 holes 2nd day and 9 holes before we departed. The course itself is in good condition but could be a lot better with some tlc. Some bunkers require work but im sure the grounds men will get there soon. Bring plenty of balls as once your in the rough forget finding your ball. Plenty of water hazards also around the course. Highlight of the 2nd day was a 28 handicapper GOT A HOLE IN ONE on the 2nd hole & our society champion went round in 1 UNDER PAR. If you visit and play this course you will soon know that Under par is an achievement in itself. The hotel is having some renevasion work doing at the moment but still in good clean condition, The staff are very pleasant and helpfull. The rooms are basic but have hot showers, clean bedding and fresh towels each day we were there. All in all a great golfing break for the price, Give it 6 to 12 months and this place will be fantastic with some investment.

I took 44 golfers on tour to Bidford on the 5th,6th,7th June 2007.I booked 10 single rooms and 17 double rooms several months prior to our visit I was told literally 5 days prior to our visit that 5 double rooms had to become triple rooms which did not go down well.I also did a deal for 22 buggies and was not told until the day before leaving for Bidfod that 22 would be available.I ended up organising a van to take trollies just in case,so that was a cost that was not required.Food was O.K.however there was no food available during the day and it was necessary to push for some sandwiches to feed the boys.
The course is long and very challenging and on the hole the boys enjoyed themselves.
in my opinion this complex is not run very well.
This venue is an absolute goldmine if it was managed right.I hope that Bidford take golfers comments seriously.

Very poor the golf course is in poor condition the fairways are unkept the greens had mushrooms growing on them holes 6 7 8 9 were under water so instead of 36 hole we played 28.The hotel seemed to run itself nobody was in charge we had to eat are evening meal in the bar because the dinning room was being used for a party. The choice of food was poor only two options curry or sausage also very small portions the rooms were ok but are shower had no tempreture control so had to wash in the sink. All in all i would never go there again

Oh dear, it was basic last year but sadly the place is going down the pan. Booked 6 double rooms for 3 nights. only four rooms available Four in one room three in another etc etc. No food available at lunchtime, no pro shop and no fuel in the buggys. Arrived on the Sunday and no room service till Tuesday (no clean towels or beds made). No milk in the rooms for a brew. Food is basic but OK (breakfast & dinner) but this place needs some investment. The course is long especially back nine with heavy rough right next to fairways, no first cut. Off line and you're dead so take plenty of balls 'cos you won't be able to buy any.
It's a shame, real potential. Could be a great venue.

One word to sum up Bidford Grange -potential......... Bidford Grange 'Golf Complex'? No shop or sitting pro. Staff trying to make the best of what they have I suppose, interior of the hotel needing serious investment. We went out first night of our stay as there was no chef on apparently, on our return the place was locked up and in darkness, not a single person on duty. We eventually got in at a tradesmans entrance at the side of the building. Course condition poor, poorly cut fairways-clover everywhere, passable front nine, best forgotten back nine, mushrooms growing on every green. Take plenty balls. With a bit of tlc and financial backing to match, this could be a gem, a long way off a the moment, bit like the 600yd par 5 on the back nine!

ON SUNDAY 28TH OF MAY,OUR PARTY OF 28 TRAVELLED DOWN FROM NORTH WALES TO BIDFORD GRANGE FOR OUR ANNUAL WEEK AWAY. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT BIDFORD,WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO FOOD AVAILABLE. SOME OF US WENT BACK INTO THE TOWN TO THE SUPERMARKET TO GET THE SHOPPING IN. THE COURSE WASN'T IN BAD CONDITION, BUT A COUPLE OF THE BUNKERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN G.U.R. BECAUSE THEY WERE BARE. THE POOR GIRL ON RECEPTION DOUBLED UP AS BAR STAFF, AND IN THE EVENING SHE WAS RUSHED OFF HER FEET TRYING TO SERVE 28 THIRSTY MEN. THEN CAME THE SUPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT, THAT THE BAR WAS CLOSINGAT 11PM.THAT DIDN'T GO DOWN TOO WELL.WE COULD STILL BUY BOTTLED BEER SUCH AS BUD, BUT WE COULDN'T BUY SPIRITS,(DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT ONE EITHER). THERE WERE NO SCORECARDS ON ARRIVAL, ONLY PHOTOCOPIES, (THE SUPPLIER HAD LET THEM DOWN), THERE WAS NO MILK IN THE ROOMS TO MAKE A BREW WITH, (THE SUPPLIER HAD LET THEM DOWN). ITS A SHAME REALLY,BECAUSE THE WHOLE SET UP LOOKS PLEASANT,IT JUST NEEDS RUNNING PROPERLY.NEIL EDNEY, OLD PADESWOOD GOLF CLUB.

This is one golfing establishment I would give a wide berth to. On Sunday 20th May 2007, my party of 28 golfers arrived for five days accomodation and golf. On Monday morning after a meeting with the management, all 28 of us packed our bags and left. I will say no more.

11 May 2007: This is the third time we have been to Bidford Grange ( party 4 people)on a one night stay and 2 x 18 holes of golf. We found the course just as challenging but greens definetly needed attention. We used none of the golf facilities as we had rooms, but wondered why the golf shop no longer existed.
The Hotel and the rooms had certainly deteriated since our last visit. The food left much to be desired. No bar staff were available to serve and the bitter and guiness ran out during the first evening.
There is no facilities now to purchase food during the day, our party and another party of 16 golfers went into Bidford village to purchase snack food. This will be our last visit here.

Just Returned from Bidford Grange following a weekend of golf. Basically:
NEGATIVES:
1.Should of played 18 holes Saturday teed off at 2.50 (should of been 1.47!- but apparently someone was late in the morning so all the other times got put back!), instead of playing 18 we did the 1st 9 in 3 1/2 hours!
2. Showers were absolutely freezing (last thing you need after a game of golf!)
3. Free Beer tokens could only be redeemed between 7-11pm (Carling £2.80 pint,)& only 1 bar person for 50 beer guzzling blokes!.
4. Course certainly needs some work (greens & fairways was like having a knock at the local park!)potential for a really good course - although v,v long.
5. Pre Book Trolleys and/or Buggies (none available both days!)
POSITIVES:
1. Fairly decent accomodation.
2. Food nice and good value (3 of my mates had two soups, chicken curry/rice, sunday roast, and afters all at one sitting!
3. Friendly Staff.
4. Overall package wasn't to bad value for money.
Overall. Not too bad if the essentials were ironed out it would be a good golfing experiance.

played on Sat 24/06/06.booked course as group of 8 for round of golf and a meal. Course was in good condition and we all enjoyed the round.Afterwards when we tried to book meal, after being there for nearly 6 hours, first wa stold chef was not there, then when sorted this out was given a menu that consisted of bagettes at £5. Igf we had turned up on the day without booking would have cost the same. No discount for group.Bar service was shabby, most beers were not on and expensive.couldn't get refund for not having food(no one there authorised!!)So we left and had a cracking carvery at local pub for £7.50. None of us will be returning,EVER.On top of all that the pro shop was closed,on a saturday in mid June??

We played this course recently and found the course extremely challenging due to it's length.
Of a society of 18 with handiacaps between 10 and 28, 30 stapleford points were broken only twice over the 2 days. The value for money was excellent apart from the bar prices .The accomadation was good and the staff very helpful.
The course itself could do with some improvement especialy the greens. If the course was less severe we would visit again.

We were a society of 24 playing 3 rounds of golf on friday, Saturday & Sunday. The handicap range was 3 to 26.
The general feeling was that the course was challenging, but needed some money spent to improve the condition of the fairways and greens.
We had no problems at all with tee times on Friday and saturday, with rounds completed in just over 4 hours. On Sunday, our group did not have any problems, but an earlier society were double booked and had to start on the 12th. The round on the Sunday was very slow (over 5 hours), but this was caused by a very slow 4 ball in front.
The driving range was very poor with ripped mats and no tee pegs.
The accomodation was more than adequate, rooms were cleaned each day with fresh towels etc provided. Food in the Restaurant was adequate, and the buffet arrangement mean't that you had as much as you wanted.
The only downside of the weekend was the bar prices. Nearly £3 a pint and they ran out of Guiness and fosters. The vouchers could only be used after 7 and only for beer. They also charged us £4.50 for a bacon roll and coffee on arrival, which we had assumed to be part of the package.
Overall, I would say a good venue, with excellent value for money. If you want better food and a better golf course, then you'd have to pay a lot more money.

Having played Bidford on a weekend away trip for the last five years I can say that every year the course and facilities have improved every year. Yes the accomodation is pretty basic but when you look at the deals you cannot expect 5 star. The food is good and on the night we were there last Sept (2005) they had laid on entertainment which unfortunately was not very well received. The course was in excellent condition and as others have commented the first nine is somewhat easier than the second nine. Take plenty of spare balls with you. An added bonus after your game is the free beer (if you have booked this package) but be aware that this only applies for the evening that you stay and the vouchers cannot be used the following lunchtime. We are very much looking forward to our next trip to this club.

We booked up Bidford Grange for 2 nights and 3 rounds of golf. The hotel is a bit rough round the edges but for what we paid we couldnt complain. The evening meal was fantastic! The golf course is a very challenging course, and has some great views! i would happily recommend this complex for a weekend of golf. Just remember that when you get poor service at the bar or no staff at all just remember how much you paid!!! it actually is a decent place!!!

Played here on 01/10/05.
Oh dear, not helpful at all - charged the wrong prices in the pro-shop. Then, having made our way to the 1st (we were a society, paid to play 36 holes), were told to start at the 10th as there was a members competition in progress. Tee'd off at the 10th and then told we couldn't play in the morning at all because of the members competition. When the question of reimbursement was raised, we were "allowed" to play the back 9 ONLY in the morning, so in effect paid for 36 holes but only got to play 27. As for lunch, there was no cover in the bar/restaurant, so they had to close the pro shop to serve us. Very poor organisation. But the course, when they let you on, is OK.

Played the course on 12 August 2005 and was very impressed. We got in at short notice and the pro shop were very welcoming and helpful. The condition of the course was excellent and the greens were superb, all 18 of them. A somewhat challenging course, but don't let this put you off. It is set in some very nice countryside and a couple of the tees/greens offer great views. We found the back 9 more difficult than the front (lots of water!) I would not hesitate to recommend this course and we certainly will be going back. One of the best courses I've played on for a long time

HAVE JUST SPENT A 2 NIGHT WEEKEND AT BIDFORD 3/6/05 WITH MY GOLF SOCIETY (18 STRONG) AND I MUST SAY AFTER READING SOME OF THE COMMENTS ON THIS WEB SIGHT WE WERE A LITTLE WORRIED.HOWEVER OUR FEARS WERE PROVED TO BE UNFOUNDED.THE COURSE ALTHOUGH VERY HARD IS IN FANTASTIC CONDITION AND WOULD BE VERY HIGH UP ON MY LIST OF BEST COURSES I HAVE PLAYED.THE TEES ARE FLAT WITH PLENTY OF GRASS SO YOUR NOT WASTING TIME LOOKING FOR A GOOD AREA TO DRIVE FROM.THE FAREWAYS ARE WIDE ENOUGH AND IN GREAT CONDITION, BUT IF YOU STRAY TOO FAR OFF LINE AND MISS BOTH FAREWAY AND SEMI ROUGH THE ROUGH IS UNFORGIVING AND YOU WILL BE LUCKY TO FIND YOUR BALL,BUT IF YOUR THAT FAR OFF LINE YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE, AS I DID ON SEVERAL OCCATIONS.WHEN YOU FINALLY GET TO THE GREEN YOU WILL FIND THEM IN SUPERB CONDITION NOT OVER FAST BUT NOT SLOW EITHER.IF YOU MISS A PUT IT WILL NOT BE BECAUSE OF THE STATE OF THE GREENS.THE FRONT NINE IS A LOT EASIER THE THE BACK NINE SO TO COME AWAY WITH A GOOD SCORE YOU WILL POOBABLY NEED TO DO THE DAMAGE GOING OUT AND TRY TO HANG ON COMING HOME WHERE WATER COMES INTO PLAY ON MOST HOLES.I SEE SOME CRITISISM OF THE COURSE LAYOUT BY OTHERS ON THIS SITE.I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT AS A 16 HANDICAP GOLFER I WOULD RATHER HAVE TO THINK MY WAY ROUND ANY COURSE THAN JUST BE ABLE TO PUT A BALL DOWN AND SMASH IT AS FAR AS I CAN EVERY TIME (THATS NOT GOLF).THIS COURSE IS A TRUE TEST FOR ANY GOLFER A SENTIMENT BACKED UP BY ALL OUR SOCIETY TO A MAN (RANGE 11 TO 28 HANDICAP)AND FOR GROUP OF GOLFERS THAT ARE USED TO PLAYING SOME OF THE BEST COURSES IN THE NORTH WEST AND NORTH WALES I NEED SAY NO MORE. IN FINISHING I WOULD JUST LIKE TO ADD THAT PLEASURE WE HAD PLAYING THIS COURSE WAS MATCHED BY THE FOOD STAFF AND FACILITIES WE RECEIVED DURING OUR TWO NIGHT STAY, I WOULD RECOMMEND BIDFORD GRANGE TO ANYONE, WE WILL CERTAINLY BE GOING BACK.

Played this course as a 4 ball on sunday 24 October 2004, & were made to feel about as welcome as herpes. Arrived over half an hour early and were told that we were late, but to tag on at the end of the members competition (which meant we were only about ten minutes later than our booked tee time. The course was rough, muddy, fairways were longer than the rough at some other clubs. Several of the greens had been hollow tined which made it an absolute lottery when putting. After three hours and only having completed nine holes we had had enough and quit. Just making a course long does not necessarily make it good. The walk between some of the tees is long and would therefore recommend that if you are going to play this course that you book a buggy when telephoning. What could be a nice course with some lovely views is spoilt by the condition, and a little bit more love & attention could help tremendously, unfortunately I don't feel that at the moment that this is £25 well spent.
Nicholas Browne (England) 17/10/04
I played the course as a 3-ball on 17th October. With a t-time of 2pm and 2 hours 45 min to play the first 9 holes the going was extremely slow with at one stage 7 games across 4 holes. The course itself was extremely wet, with most fairways being extremely muddy with excessive amounts of standing water. The greens were firm but bumpy and the bunkers, well, you are better off avoiding their clay like contents altogether. The back nine was more interesting then the front nine but alas we only made it as far as 14 before nightfall. Overall it was disappointing and certainly not worth the £25 green fee (not £18 as quoted on this website).
John Blades (England) 29/08/04
Played the course on 27/8/04. My first impression of the course was that a hasty decision has to be made on what club to hit off the 1st tee, a bad start for a resort course...later I discovered that an even more difficult choice faced the golfer at the 10th! I am mystified as to why the architect put two Micky-Mouse holes at the start of both nines, forcing the golfer to play short-iron off the tee then a longer iron approach, because artificially lengthening a course of 7000 yds. seems unnecessary to me. Ho-hum. For a modern course Bidford Grange has far too many blind shots. On the day I played the fairways were at semi-rough height, we were searching for balls in the fairway! We put that down to this being the wettest August since 17** so the Greenstaff were unable to take the mowers out for a spin. The greens and tees, however, were perfectly fine. Food and drink were also perfectly fine. A nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to be a Member.
Gary Askew (England) 19/06/04
MY REGULAR PLAYING PARTNER AND MYSELF PLAYED BIDFORD GRANGE REGULARLY UNTIL SPRING 2003 WHEN WE DECIDED TO START PLAYING A MORE LOCAL COURSE."THE GRANGE" WAS NOT IN BAD CONDITION AT THE TIME BUT WE FELT WE NEEDED A BETTER COURSE TO SPEND OUR "SUNDAY ALLOWANCE" MONEY ON.
AFTER DECIDING TO GO AND PAY BIDFORD GRANGE A VISIT LAST WEEK WE WERE AMAZED AT THE CHANGES MADE TO THE CLUB AND COURSE.
THERE IS NOW A VERY GOOD PRO SHOP.
THE HOTEL HAS GONE THROUGH MAJOR REFURBISHMENT.
THE HOTEL IS NOW AA 3 STAR RATED.
AS FOR THE COURSE,WE WERE AMAZED AT THE QUALITY OF THE GREENS,TEES AND MOSTLY THE FAIRWAYS!
THE GREENS HELD AND WERE QUITE FAST,THE FAIRWAYS WERE CLOSELY MOWN AND THE TEES WERE WELL CUT.
AS FOR THE GAME WE BOTH ENJOYED OURSELVES TREMENDOUSLY(NEVER LOST A BALL)AIDED BY THE FACT THAT WE BOTH PLAYED TO OUR HANDICAPS.
HATS OFF TO THE MANAGEMENT AND STAFF FOR A VERY PLEASANT SURPRISE.WE WILL BE GOING BACK FOR SURE.
Darren Reece (England) 18/11/03
played on 18/11/2003 course in not bad condition due to the time of the year,no temp tees or greens. This course played like a links course, front 9 was very open with some very good holes. The 7th hole was very confusing as off the white tees it was 223yds par 3,yellow 216 par 3, red 220 par 4 ????.Back 9 was very different as ive never seen so much water ( other than at the beach ),hole 10 was a thinking hole we must of been on the tee for 5 mins debating what club to take .Beaware unless a big hitter take a 5 iron and play short of the water.Onwards the 13th and 14th big dog legs, 17th longest par 5 with 10 bunkers ( yes 10 ) easy finishing hole then onwards to the 19th.When in the club house the hospitality was first class ( well done to the new starter very tasty) but not a very good bar menu, couldnt find the chef but when the food came it was excellent. We will be returning in the summer of 2004 hope we see the green staff then around the course.
Kev Wittin (England) 31/10/03
Myself and a pal just reurned from an over night stay at Bidford Grange which was arranged very efficently by golfbreaks.com
The course was in good condition which was as expected as we were playing at the end of October following the dry summer and autumn of 2003. This is a good test of golf with some memorable holes. However the design of the course varies from the sublime to the ridiculous. On one hand it has been thoughtfully laid out with clever use of the lie of the land on the front nine and good use of water on the back, but too often there were hazards placed where a perfectly well hit shot might land. For instance there were often bunkers (some reverted to grass), which couldn't be sen from the tee, in the middle of fairways smack in line with marker posts. And too often there are bunkers guarding the centre front of greens on holes measuring over 400 yards. It could be argued that this provides a challenge for the lower handicap golfers but it also makes it a slow course to play. Oh, and it's long too! Expect about 4 hours per round.
The hotel and accomodation are fine. The staff are friendly and casual, the rooms warm and pleasantly furnished and the food adequate. They bill this place as family owned and you should take this to mean that it isn't ultra professional. Some people may find this a refreshing change from the more formal atmosphere of other golfing establishments, whilst others could get a bit irritated by things like there only being 2 pool cues available for use on 1 full size snooker table, 1 half size snooker table and 1 pool table. I'd say that Bideford Grange would be a good place for a golf society to go if they are looking for good value for money and plenty of boozing!
Andrew Easter (England) 15/09/03
I just came back from a weekend golf break at Bidford Grange and had an excellent time. Myself and eight friends all went on the break hoping for a decent golf course and a good social atmosphere. The course was in good condition (much better than expected after reading other peoples reviews) including the greens that have an excellent pace. Contrary to one review here, i believe you can control the ball on these greens, with an approach shot, if you've got the right technique. You can't expect a ball to stop if you're playing the shot wrong! Breakfast and dinner were very good and the bar stays open very late!!! The staff were friendly and even organised taxi's for us into Stratford on the friday night. I would highly recommend a golf break at Bidford Grange for anyone who wants to play golf and also have some fun off the course too. Thanks to the all the staff at the club for a great weekend.
GJ (ENGLAND) 21/08/03
played here a few weeks ago, this couldbe one of the best courses around this area, when they,ve sorted out eh tees and the greens, its got real potential, it,s long, wild and a lot of very different holes, i found the front 9 a bit bland but the 1st 3 on the back 9 very interesting, you definetly need prior knowledge at some of the holes, cause you can,t see the problems until your in them. it will be an excellent course whn run better and they have a coffe machine that works
J Lequesne (UK) 18/06/03
Played here in May '03 and the fairways were full of thick clover which seems to be growing out of control.
General condition of greens and tees was good. Club house lacked staff and cold drinks. Seemed very poorly organised.
Dan Moss (UK) 19/05/03
Like others, stayed two night and three rounds. Food- OK, Hotel- OK, Hospitallity- V-Good, Course layout- V-good, Course condition- V POOR!
Tees, what tees? muddy mounds with yellow stick on. Rough, very rough, if your ball goes in, it won't be coming out! Fairways, need cutting and colver to be dealt with, often a good tee shot was punished by clover, lost a few on the fairway. Greens, very hard and fast, virtulally no control over the ball. This could be a very good challenging course if money was spent on it,Instead of enticing vistors with free beer.
A great opportunity saddly wasting away.
David Goodyear (UK) 13/04/03
After 6 years as a member of Bidford Grange Golf Club I am moving to pastures new (house move). My timing is poor as Bidford, this season, has grass on the fairways, raked sand in the bunkers, quick greens and good food available in the clubhouse. Some members never thought it would happen but congratulations Dan things are really looking good. All the best for the future.

Booked a two day break thru golfbreaks.com and had a wonderful time!!!!O.K. the greens were a bit slow, but they have employed a new greenkeeping team who have really got the ball rolling according to a couple of members we spoke to..The front nine plays very 'linksy' with a lot of greens needing a bump and run approach...but the back nine was great..!!!water, water everywhere!!! Not a course where you can 'blast' away...lots of thought needed to plan your way around...Off the course the staff are superb..we had a power cut...no problem...chauffered to the local pub until it was sorted....cheers to Mark and the gang!!!!

I was a member of this course from 1998-2001 and whilst I concur with some of the comments regarding the condition of the course, the owners have endeavoured to improve it all the time and the greens now, whilst not fast are green with grass, not brown with fungal attack.
The course is a real challenge with water coming into play on 7 of the back nine holes, along with out of bounds on the right for holes 10 through to 13.
The course is very long, third longest in the U.K.and despite the poor condition from time to time, it is without doubt one of the most challenging courses in the area.

Stayed for two nights and three rounds.
Had an excellent time and the food was very good.
The course is challenging with a lot of water on the second nine, most of which you cant see off the tee, so good look on that first round!!!
The course was in good condition for October although generally the tees need work on them.
Potentially an excellent course!!!!
Must try it again in the summer.

Course long and most greens are well protected, such a shame the course has ben let go,fairways are poor, tees are the worst I have ever seen in 20 years of golf, greens are quite good but are terribly slow.Shame it makes single figure golf impossible.

stayed in the hotel for 3 nights and can confirm Breakfast & Evening meal are very good. No chance of any lunch though as they do not serve, although you can have a sandwich which are priced at £ 2.00 for members & 2.50 for Non Members !!!.
The beer was sold on a similar basis.
The course is very demanding but it is quite picturesque and has a very good layout and if it was worked on it would have immense potential.
The only downfall are the tees and greens , they were the slowest greens i have ever putted on and the tee areas need moving daily not monthly, This place could offer so so much more if only ...
I'd love to go back if they put some effort in.
J.Cattle 4 handicap.
