Eccleston Park Golf Club Player Reports

I played this newish course for the first time and found it an enjoyable fair test of golf. The greens were in excellent condition considering the rst of the course had suffered with the very poor weather for this time of year. Well worth a visit

I've played this Eccleston on many occasions so can give an honest and fair impression.
The course is relatively new and presents the player with a good challenge of golf. The clubhouse has recently been refurbished and includes a well stocked pro shop and a bar/restaurant serving a variety of food and drink (the all day breakfast is highly recommended). The course is currently undergoing refurbishment, effecting 6 of the holes - improvement is essential however and whilst it's currently looking like a 'building site' once finished, it'll be a very tidy setup and even more challenging. The clubhouse has a detailed plan of the project and the scorecards have been ammended so don't let this put you off what is a very good course.
Holes to look out for-
1st - Challenging dog-leg left par 4, longer hitters can shortne the hole considerably by going over the pond to the left of the fairway approx. 230 yards off the tee. A well hit second shot must be made into a two tiered green.
5th - Slightly downhill par 5, a good birdie opportunity. Players must avoid a pond to the left of the fairway from the tee. A good drive will tempt many to go for the green in two however a small stream will swallow up any errand shots. The out of bounds is close to the back of the green also.
8th - Tough par 3 with water crossing the hole. A misplaced shot will do well to avoid the drink. The green is one of the most difficult on the course, sloping toward the hazard.
9th - A tough par 4 featuring a pylon as the main hazard. A stream follows the hole down the left so the tee shot must be accurate. A mid to long iron will be left to a difficult green.
15th - Players must decide whether to lay up short of the brook approx 200 yards from the tee or go for it with the driver. A potential card wrecker.
There are a couple of negative points however - the greens have yet to be up to standard this year and the tee's required a cut last time I played. However these points are quite petty and I've no hesitation in recommending this course to everyone.

played the course on sunday 4th february unfortunatly the course was in poor condition resembling a building site rather than a golf course.there are mounds of soil and building debris along the first two holes and the last two holes.the "work" has turned the ground into a muddy disgrace! the bar facilities are small considering the refurbishment and rather expensive.

Having played several courses in the Merseyside area.It was a pleasure to find a course where you had to think rather than just blast away.Yes there is work going on.But the potential is there for all to see.
The new clubhouse is excellent, the menu has food for all.The prices very reasonable.
I for one will be back.

Unfortunately the course is in poor condition at the moment. The entrance to the golf club is uninviting, the road has been dug up, I presume for the appartments being built next to the 6th fairway. The car park, has no tarmac just dirt and is very small. Between the 6th and 9th the course is being redeveloped, mounds of earth and rubble cover the course so a drive off line on the sixth or the 9th you are looking for a ball in a pile of dirt!
The greens are poor, full of aeration holes that your ball stops in and full of sand. There is nearly as much sand on the greens than there is in the bunkers!
The new clubhouse is great, food is good quality, however is a little expensive.

Previous comment seems like a bit like an advertisment to me. Although a pleasent setting, nice clubhouse etc, the overall feeling for the course was uninspiring. Being a relative newcomer to the sport, I have tried a number of courses in the area, and could not see myself playing here every week. Flat and dull, by the thirteenth I was getting bored. The greens were good and, as previously stated, when the trees grow it will tighten up. Will probably go back in ten years or so, but have much more fun playing the local municipal at Sherdley or Walton Hall.
