The course and greens were in excellent condition, although this is a very demanding course for the average golfer.
Unless you get good distance off the tee (over 150 yards), then the course will be almost impossible. My partner probably lost 11 balls through not being able to reach the fairways.
Keep your ball on the fairways because the rough is almost impossible to play out of. However one of the benefits of the course being played by numerous corporate types, was the quality of balls found around the rough.
The 7th is a great hole requiring nerve off the tee. Also liked the 17th the longest of the Par 3's which required a long and accurate shot
Only gripe was the driving range. Having paid my £2.50 for a good sized basket of balls. There were only about 3 or 4 rubber tees for the dozen bays

I played the course yesterday in fine weather conditions, and have to say that I witnessed a lot of "good shots" poorly rewarded, and any shots
slightly askew normally resulting in a lost ball.
Whilst it is a termendous test of golf, the architect must have been a sadist. Be under no illusions, should you play this course, you are in for one hell of a hard round, requiring a lot of patience and careful course management. As for yesterday, the course beat me and my fellow competitors hands down.

Played here in early July for the first time, and thoroughly enjoyed it! Wouldn't believe the course is so young, and has quite a 'links' feel for an inland track (although that might be down to the fact the weather was hot and dry, so the ball rolled on a good way!). The greens are very good, just a nice pace, and the rough very punishing. Managed a couple of pars (not bad for a 27 handicapper!), although confess I gave up on the 7th after seeing 3 drives disappear into the nature reserve! All in all a good test, and highly recommended. Off course the food was good in the bar, and pro shop well-equipped - staff very pleasant too!

I have to confess prior to playing this course I had never actually heard of Wychwood Park. I am now glad to say I am one of its biggest fans. For such a young course I was in awe of its quality, even in the more inclimate weather in which I eventually played. Each hole is something different, and there are no easy holes here. If you are a lover of golf then I urge you to play this course. The price we paid for our society day was a bargain for what could easily be a PGA Tour course, I recomend that anyone who is up to the challenge plays this course now, before its popularity (and no doubt price) reach th heights thatit deserves.

Played the course today, 28th October, for the second time and have to admit it was in better condition then when I last played it in July. I believe a lot of work has been performed on the greens and it shows. Be under no illusions this course is difficult and you will be severly punished for poor shots. Played on a 2fore1 for £20 each and at this rate it is a bargain, to be honest at £40 its still a bargain. Course was very quiet, probably due to the recent bad weather. In the main the course was dry and played very well, there were a few damp and soggy patches but these were in the rough. Apart from 2 dodgy holes around the turn I posted a decent score of 86 gross off my 14 handicap and felt that this wasn't really a reflection of how well I struck the ball, as said earlier you really are punished for being slightly off line. Favourite holes were the 6th, a mid iron par 3 from a elevated tee to a green surround by bunkers and the 18th a long par 5 dogleg right to a raised green surrounded by bunkers (I actually murdered this hole with my two best shots of the day, a faded 300 yard drive around the dogleg and a 240 yard 3 wood to 15 feet, where I nearly came out of my shoes. Two putts on the lightning fast greens for a gross birdie! I actually had 3 birdies in the round but round the turn killed me where for no apparent reason I couldn't hit a cows backside with a banjo.). The food was reasonably priced and quite good, aswell as 2 beautiful pints of Hobgoblin to cap off a very enjoyable day. Only gripe really was the bar staff who seemed a bit miserable, but so would I be if I had to pull pints while such an excellent course was in full view. Fabulous place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great course, open for over 3 years now and it is maturing nicely.
This is not an easy course and is sometimes a struggle to post a good round, but you always leave feeling satisfyed that it has given you a good test!! The greens are in extremely good condition and are a test in itself. Service in the restauraunt is almost there to!!

our society played this course in oct 04 after a week of heavy rain
some parts of the course held a bit of water but didnt stop us having a great day out
one of the toughest courses around unless you play straight and long every drive
every hole was different and a fantastic golf course
cant wait to play the new course if its as good as this one

Played the course for the first time this weekend. Conditions were dull with a moderate breeze. The course was in fantastic condition. Greens were fast and true. It's a tough course that severely punishes you for off-line shots; keep the ball in play and you'll be well rewarded. Much of the rough is a marked conservation area and is off-limits for ball searching. Every hole has its own character and there are several absolute crackers. The only negative was slow progress with hold-ups at most holes. Highly recommended.

Played the course for the first time last week (1st June 2004). What an experience! Even though it rained intermittently throughout our round, this did little to detract from the exceptional golfing challenge that Wychwood offers. This is definately a 'thinking golfer's' course. Don't always walk to the teeing area with a driver in your hand, you will be punished severely. That said, the layout and condition of the course was superb. The only negative comment I would make, would be regarding the severity of the rough. Anything off the fairway is invariably lost! Take plenty balls with you (alternatively, spend more time in the rough than I did and find my precious Pro V1s!!). That aside, I did manage 2 birdies on my round, so rewards are out there to be had. Not for the faint-hearted. Enjoy.

I can't believe that in they have got this course playing so well in such a short space of time. There is still plenty of maturing required but the fairways and greens are in a fantastic state. The par 3 sixth playing down from a raised tee over a small stream with glorious views was my particular favourite. Bring plenty of balls as much of the course is preserved for wildlife. Club house modern with great facilities. A great day out.
Stuart Heeps (England) 22/04/03
Played this 'new' course on 17th April, which happened to be a glorious if breezy day.
First impressions of an imposing Clubhouse, nearby hotel and rolling countryside were excellent. We were not to be disappointed having stepped on to the 1st Tee. I will be returning to Wychwood Park, as once the course has matured it will be nothing short of magnificent. Testing Tee-shots, undulating greens, and Par 3's that will give you nightmares, are the plusses on this Cheshire course. The only negative (and it won't be a negative if the course achieves PGA Tour status) is the distance you have to walk between some of the holes. However, I am being picky and I've picked out a couple of the holes to whet your appetite.
Number 1 - Downhill Par 5, not overly difficult, but the drive is somewhat hindered by the brow of the hill - however driving into the wind meant it played like a 'very' long par 5.
Number 7 - another par 5, yet its all about the Drive - split fairways either side of a stream mean you have to pick your line and not change your mind - long second shot to a small target means it may be wise to lay up
Number 6 - Par 3 - Raised Tee down across a stream which runs the length of the hole - horrible sloping green, although there is a large 'bail-out' area to the right.
Number 17 - Par 3 - yet more water - 170 yards of carry, and not much green to work with - if you claim a 3, be very chuffed.
