The Wisley Golf Club Player Reports

Played the Garden and Mill 9's earlier this year and was thoroughly impressed. The set up and infrastructure is as good as Loch Lomond (albeit in a Surrey setting) with a fantastic clubhouse that serves probably the best golf course food available anywhere. The pro shop was well stocked with premium kit and the course itself is immaculate, tees greens and fairways are all of the same high standard. Many water hazards around so take plenty of balls. A great track and a privelege to have been able to play there as it is private and restricted by member invite only.

This is an exceptionally fine course. It would be quite a feat to find a course in the UK in much better all round condition. 27 holes in total split into 3 separate 9’s each with their own character – Church, Mill and Garden. Not hugely long – somewhere around 6,200 yards off the yellows depending on your mix for 18. Positional play rather than long hitting is essential with many bunkers and penal rough lying in wait. The tees are excellent – I have played on courses with greens in worse condition than the tees at Wisley, the fairways are simply immaculate – you would count yourself extremely unlucky to end up in a divot as you could be forgiven for thinking that you are the only person ever to have played on the course and the greens are near perfect – good pace and very true – plenty of undulations on the Church and Mill 9’s, flatter on the Garden but all superb. Club house facilities are totally in keeping with the quality of the course. Just about as good as it gets…perhaps the addition of lunch with a beautiful woman would create the perfect day but that might just be asking too much? In summary, play this course if you can!....But that could be tricky - you have to be signed in by a guest and I dont think there are too many of them around...alternatively go for membership - something in the region of £40k debenture to join...well, perhaps in my next life!
